al-Shabab Attack Nairobi Hotel

A luxury hotel complex is under attack in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

Gunfire and at least two blasts were heard at the compound in the Westlands district of the city, which houses the DusitD2 hotel as well as offices.

The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab said it was behind the attack but gave no details. Four armed men entered the complex, eyewitnesses say.

People have been leaving the site escorted by armed officers. Several people were led out covered in blood. The attack began at about 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT). A woman working in a neighbouring building told Reuters news agency: “I just started hearing gunshots, and then started seeing people running away raising their hands up and some were entering the bank to hide for their lives.”

Machete Wielding Man Tasered At Tulse Hill Station

A machete-wielding man was Tasered on a railway station platform as “terrified” rush hour commuters looked on.

Police pinned the man – filmed waving a “massive” blade at Tulse Hill station in South London – to the ground shortly after 18:30 GMT on Monday. Witnesses described “chaos” as he chased people with the weapon.

A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon, police said.
One witness @Vikjas85 tweeted: “Man at Tulse Hill Station with a massive machete just been Tasered by the police.”

Many people have also taken to social media to praise police for their quick action.

Mattvan Pricey said: “Congratulations to the officers who responded to last night’s incident at Tulse Hill completely professional in managing a volatile situation in a safe manner.” Social media user Caroline said: “Well done as always to the police – you do a great job all the time and thank you for preventing fatalities and injuries – my husband at Tulse Hill at the time.” British Transport Police (BTP) said there were no reported injuries and what happened was not believed to be terror-related.

The arrest comes on the day Sadiq Khan announced Lambeth Council leader Lib Peck as the director of his new Violence Reduction Unit.

British Cyber Criminal Jailed For 32 Months

A British cyber criminal who carried out an attack so powerful it knocked a nation offline has been jailed.

Daniel Kaye admitted attacking an African phone company – inadvertently crashing Liberia’s internet – in 2016.

The 29-year-old remains at the heart of a major international investigation into hundreds of acts of cyber sabotage around the world. The National Crime Agency says Kaye is perhaps the most significant cyber criminal yet caught in the UK.

Jailing Kaye for 32 months at Blackfriars Crown Court in London, Judge Alexander Milne QC said Kaye had committed a “cynical” financial crime. He added: “Paradoxically, what is urged on your behalf is that you are an intelligent young man who knows what your powers can do. “But that makes it all the more worrying that you used your abilities to carry out this attack.”

Kaye wept as he was taken down.

Twenty Eight Year Sentence For Nightclub Attacker

A man who drove his car down a crowded alley and on to a nightclub dancefloor has been jailed for 28 years.

Mohammed Abdul, 21, injured staff and revellers at Blake’s in Gravesend after being “humiliated” when he was thrown out by bouncers for being too drunk. He made threats to kill the door staff before returning in his Suzuki Vitara 10 minutes later.

Abdul, of Deptford, south-east London, was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court of two counts of attempted murder.

Eight people were injured in the attack on 17 March, including Katie Wells, 18, who was left with a fractured pelvis, and cameraman Pierre Jermaine Joseph who had a fractured shinbone.

Sentencing Abdul, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb described the club as a “scene of carnage”. She said his victims could have easily been killed and the injuries to Ms Wells could render her infertile.
