Armed Officers To Begin Wearing Head Mounted Cameras

Armed officers are to be issued with head-mounted cameras in a effort to provide “greater transparency” in police shootings, the Met Police says.

The Met – the UK’s largest police force – said officers in its armed response units will have cameras fitted to baseball caps and ballistic helmets. It will give “a documented and accurate account” of situations, the Met added.

Armed officers had trialled body-mounted cameras, but in 2015 they were criticised as “unfit-for-purpose”.

Their introduction followed criticisms of the Met over the death of Mark Duggan, who was shot by armed officers in August 2011, sparking riots across England.

Soviet Missile Explodes In Russia Killing Two

A “stolen” 10m-long (35ft) Soviet-era anti-aircraft missile has exploded at a recycling centre in eastern Russia, killing two and injuring one.

Russian media were alerted to the explosion of the large-scale missile in the city of Chita after a YouTube user uploaded a car dashcam video showing the moment of the blast.

The missile was an S-200 Angara, known as the SA-5 “Gammon” in Nato countries. They have been in service since the 1960s, but are nowadays superseded by the S-300 and S-400 surface-to-air models.

It is unknown how the missile came to be at a recycling plant. Local news website by24.org says that the seven tonne missile “had been stolen” from a military base by persons unknown and taken to the facility in exchange for cash. It had likely exploded while recycling workers were trying to dismantle it.

News website The Insider says that emergency response workers later found another intact rocket from the S-200 missile system.

US ‘locked and loaded’ Trump Warns North Korea

President Donald Trump says the US military is “locked and loaded” to deal with North Korea, ramping up the rhetorical brinkmanship.

“Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong-un will find another path!” he tweeted. He spoke as North Korea accused him of “driving” the Korean peninsula to the “brink of a nuclear war”.

Pyongyang has announced plans to fire missiles near the US territory of Guam. The Pacific island’s homeland security agency issued a fact sheet on Friday with tips for residents to prepare for any missile threat. The sheet states: “Do not look at the flash or fireball – it can blind you.” “Lie flat on the ground and cover your head. If the explosion is some distance away, it could take 30 seconds or more for the blast wave to hit.”

Mr Trump’s tweet follows his threat earlier this week to rain “fire and fury” on Pyongyang. His latest post came hours after his Defence Secretary Jim Mattis attempted to defuse tensions by emphasising a peaceful resolution to the crisis.

Police Called to Borough Market After Suspicious Substance Delivered

Three people were injured after an envelope containing an “unidentified substance” was delivered to a business in London’s Borough Market.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were all called after the package was discovered at Feng Sushi in Stoney Street at about 13:40 BST.

The building was evacuated as a precaution but Scotland Yard said it was not treating the incident as terror related. No arrests have been made.

The three people all suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.

Local businessman Paul Dawson said he had been told by a community warden that “a white powder had been received” by the business. He added the restaurant manager had said to him he had to close his shop because “something quite bad had happened”.
The property was one of the locations targeted in the terror attack in June.

Missiles Ready In A Matter Of Days Reports North Korea

North Korea says a plan that could see it fire four missiles near the US territory of Guam will be ready in a matter of days.

State media said Hwasong-12 rockets would pass over Japan and land in the sea about 30km (17 miles) from Guam, if the plan was approved by Kim Jong-un.

It denounced Donald Trump’s warnings of “fire and fury” and said the US leader was “bereft of reason”. The US has warned the North its actions could mean the “end of its regime”.

US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis said Pyongyang would be “grossly overmatched” in any war against the US and its allies. There is a sense that the North Korean threat is rhetorical, as most people feel that if they really did strike with missiles it would be suicidal for the North Korean regime.

The North first announced on Wednesday that it had been drawing up plans for a missile strike against Guam, a Pacific island which is home to US military bases, strategic bombers and about 163,000 people.
