• Fears Grow Over Future Of 2015 JCPOA

    The PM has said the Iran nuclear deal should be replaced with a "Trump deal".

    Boris Johnson said he recognised US concerns the 2015 deal was "flawed", but there had to be a way of stopping Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

    "If we're going to get rid of it then we need a replacement," he said. "Let's replace it with the Trump deal."

    His comments came as the UK, France and Germany triggered a dispute mechanism in the deal after violations by Iran. There are growing fears for the future of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was abandoned by the US in 2018.

  • IS Welcome The Death Of Soleimani

    The Islamic State (IS) group has welcomed the death of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, the head of the elite Quds Force.

    In a statement, it described the general's demise as an act of divine intervention that benefitted jihadists. However, it made no mention at all of the US, which carried out the deadly drone strike against Soleimani in Baghdad on 3 January.

    President Donald Trump's decision to assassinate Gen Soleimani set off a chain of consequences - one of the first was on the unfinished war against jihadists.

  • Inmate Attack On Prison Officers Treated As Terror Attack

    An attack on prison staff by two inmates with bladed weapons is being treated as a terror attack, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

    Four officers and a nurse were injured at HMP Whitemoor in March, Cambridgeshire, on Thursday.

    One attacker is understood to be Brusthom Ziamani, 24, found guilty of preparing an act of terrorism in 2015.

    US President Donald Trump has said Iran "appears to be standing down" after it targeted air bases housing US forces in Iraq, in a televised address from the White House.

    Mr Trump said no US or Iraqi lives were lost in the attacks and the bases suffered only minimal damage.

    The Irbil and Al Asad bases were attacked early on Wednesday local time.

    Iran said it acted in retaliation after the assassination of top Iranian General Qasem Soleimani last week.

    A man who was cleared over a sword attack on police outside Buckingham Palace went on to plan a series of terror attacks, a court has heard.

    Mohiussunnath Chowdhury, 28, was found not guilty of a terror charge over an incident outside the palace in 2017, Woolwich Crown Court heard. He is accused of later planning attacks on places including London's Madame Tussauds and London Pride parade.

  • Youngest Person Convicted Of Planning Terror Attacks

    The youngest person to be convicted of planning a terror attack in the UK has been detained for more than six years.

    The now 17-year-old wrote about an "inevitable race war" in his diary and listed locations from his home city of Durham in a "guerrilla warfare" manual.

    A jury had found the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, guilty of preparation of terrorist acts between October 2017 and March 2018. He was sentenced to six years and eight months at Manchester Crown Court.

  • Knifeman Shot Dead By German Police

    German police have shot dead a man who tried to attack officers with a knife in the city of Gelsenkirchen.

    The man struck a police car with an object and attempted to assault officers who were standing by the vehicle, a police spokesman said. He was holding a knife behind his back and refused to cooperate with officers, police told AFP news agency.

    The man, who was Turkish, was warned by officers to stop his attack before he was shot, but refused.

    Germany revised its terror threat level on Friday, citing possible attacks after the US killed an Iranian general., Deutsche Welle reports.

    No 10 has urged Iraq to allow UK troops to stay in the country following the US assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, saying their work is vital.

    Soleimani was killed in a US drone strike in Iraq on Friday on the orders of President Donald Trump. Iraqi MPs responded to the strike by passing a non-binding resolution calling for an end to the foreign military presence in their country.

    European leaders have called for all sides to show restraint.

    Iran's most powerful military commander, Gen Qasem Soleimani, has been killed by a US air strike in Iraq.

    The 62-year-old spearheaded Iranian military operations in the Middle East as head of Iran's elite Quds Force. He was killed at Baghdad airport, along with other Iran-backed militia figures, early on Friday in a strike ordered by US President Donald Trump.

    Mr Trump said the general was "directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions of people". Soleimani's killing marks a major escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.

  • Knife Attacker Shot Dead By Police In Paris

    A man stabbed a number of passers-by in a park near Paris before being shot dead by police, local media report.

    The knife attack happened in the town of Villejuif, 7km (4 miles) south of the French capital.

    Four people are believed to have been stabbed including two who are reported to have died.

    The attacker was chased by police and then shot nearby. Some reports suggest he was wearing an explosive vest although this has not been confirmed.
