    The killers of a police officer who was dragged to his death behind their getaway car have been jailed.

    PC Andrew Harper died when he suffered catastrophic injuries as his ankles got caught in a strap attached to the car. Driver Henry Long was jailed for 16 years for his manslaughter, in Berkshire last August.

    PC Harper's widow Lissie said she was in "a lost and endless world" after her husband was killed in the line of duty, a month after their wedding day.

  • Chinese Students Tricked Into Kidnap Scam

    Chinese students in Sydney are being targeted in a kidnapping scam forcing them to pay massive ransoms to fraudsters, Australian police say.

    In many cases, blackmailed students were forced to stage their own kidnapping and send video proof to relatives in China to obtain funds.

    Eight "virtual kidnappings" have been reported this year, including one where a A$2m (£1.1m;$1.43m) ransom was paid. Victims had believed they or their loved ones were in danger, police said.

    A 17-year-old has been stabbed to death and three others were injured as two groups clashed in Manchester.

    Police were called to a disturbance in Henbury Street, Moss Side, at about 19:30 BST.

    The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were stabbed. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    Police ammunition and equipment were found lying in the middle of a major London road, after falling off the roof of an armed response car.

    Officers were called out after items were spotted on the carriageway of the eastbound A13 near Plaistow, Newham. Parts of the road remained closed after police discovered 'a quantity of ammunition and ancillary items' on the road.

  • Boko Haram Kill Five Aid Workers

    Five aid workers abducted last month in north-east Nigeria's Borno State have been killed, reportedly by jihadists.

    The men were working for Action Against Hunger, the International Rescue Committee, Rich International and the country's State Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria's president confirmed.

    Muhammadu Buhari blamed Boko Haram and vowed to bring the killers to justice. He also pledged to "wipe out the remaining vestiges" of the Islamist group, which has dominated the region.

    President Donald Trump has threatened to send more federal law enforcement officers to major US cities to control ongoing protests.

    Mr Trump on Monday criticised a number of cities run by "liberal Democrats", including Chicago and New York, saying their leaders were afraid to act. He said officers sent to Oregon had done a "fantastic job" restoring order amid days of protests in Portland.

    Democrats accuse Mr Trump of trying to rally his Conservative base. President Trump, a Republican, has been trailing in opinion polls behind his Democratic rival, Joe Biden, ahead of November's election.

  • Son Of US Federal Judge Shot Dead By Gunman At Family Home

    The son of a US federal judge has been shot dead and her husband injured in an attack at their family home in New Jersey.

    Investigators said the judge, Esther Salas, was unharmed. According to reports the attacker was dressed as a FedEx delivery driver and is still at large. The motive for the attack is unclear. A local mayor and family friend said Judge Salas had received threats in the past.

    The FBI says it is investigating and has appealed for information.

  • Man In Court After Brighton Hospital Stabbing

    A man has appeared in court charged with the attempted murder of a hospital worker who was stabbed in Brighton.

    Connolly Mellon, 30, of Waterloo Street, Brighton, is accused of stabbing 56-year-old George Joseph at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. The hospital was put into lockdown after Mr Joseph was attacked at about 08:40 BST on Sunday. He was treated for stab wounds and later discharged.

    Mr Mellon is also accused of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
