    Dozens of people have been killed at a Yemeni prison complex in air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition, reports say.

    Strikes hit a building used as a prison in the al-Zaydiya security headquarters in the western port of Hudaydah, security and medical officials say.

    The city is under the control of Houthi rebels, who have been battling the government since 2014. Rebels and inmates were among the 60 dead, officials said. Dozens more are believed to have been wounded.

    Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders is due to go on trial accused of racial discrimination and inciting hatred.

    The charges were brought after he led a chant for fewer Moroccans in the Netherlands at a rally 18 months ago.

    Mr Wilders, leader of the Dutch Freedom Party (PVV), says that he will not attend Monday's trial in Schiphol, calling it "a travesty". If convicted, he faces a fine and a year in prison. Mr Wilders has repeatedly criticised Islam, calling for the Koran to be banned and for the closure of all mosques in the Netherlands.

  • Nato Secretary General Does Not Want Another 'Cold War'

    Nato is not seeking confrontation with Russia and does not want another Cold War, Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said.

    The planned deployment of 4,000 extra troops to eastern Europe aims to prevent, not provoke conflict, he said. Despite current tensions, the military alliance does not see Russia as a threat, he added.

    Relations between the west and Russia are at their lowest point since the Cold War. The US and European Union imposed sanctions on Russia following its annexation of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula in 2014.

  • Rebel Group ELN Begin To Release Hostages In Colombia

    Colombia's second-biggest rebel group has begun the process of releasing a hostage, a key condition for the start of peace talks with the government, officials say.

    Former congressman Odin Sanchez has been held by the National Liberation Army (ELN) since he volunteered to swap places with his ill brother in April.

    The peace talks were due to begin on Thursday in Ecuador. But President Juan Manuel Santos said Mr Sanchez had to be released first. The government remained committed to "advancing with this process", he added.

  • 19 Year Old In Court Charged With Making Explosive Substance

    A 19-year-old man has appeared in court charged with making an explosive substance after a suspect device was found on a London Underground train.

    Damon Smith is accused of unlawfully and maliciously making or having in his possession an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.

    North Greenwich station was evacuated last Thursday during the alert.

    Mr Smith, from south east London, was remanded in custody until 17 November.

    A school complex was reportedly among several locations targeted in the village of Haas, in Idlib province. It was not immediately clear if the raids were carried out by Syrian government or Russian warplanes.

  • Liverpool: Man Who Died From Gunshot Wounds Was Targeted

    A man was found in a Liverpool street with fatal gunshot wounds to his head.

    The victim, in his 30s, was found lying in Southwood Road, Aigburth, at 22:20 BST on Monday. He was taken to hospital but later died. Detectives said it was believed to be a "targeted incident".

    A murder inquiry has begun, and police are urging witnesses to contact them. Two or three men ran off down St Michael's Road and towards Moel Famau View, police said.

    The man who died is believed to be from Croxteth. His family has been informed and a post-mortem examination is to take place later.

  • Human Rights Staff Report Of Atrocities In Mosul

    UN human rights staff have received reports of atrocities being committed by Islamic State militants as Iraqi government forces close in on Mosul.

    In one case, three women and three children were allegedly shot dead after trailing behind while being forced to march from one village to another. Elsewhere, 15 civilians were reportedly killed and their bodies thrown into a river in an attempt to spread terror.

    The UN says this reinforces fears that IS will use civilians as human shields.

  • Somali Pirates Release Hostages After Five Years

    A group of sailors who were held hostage by Somali pirates for nearly five years survived in part by eating rats.

    Filipino sailor Arnel Balbero said they were also only given small amounts of water and felt like "the walking dead" by the end of their ordeal. The 26 sailors were seized on board their ship in 2012 and were eventually taken to Somalia.

    They were freed on Saturday, reportedly after a ransom was paid. The sailors were from China, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Taiwan.
