Russian Solider Kills 3 Officers In Attack At Military Base
A Russian soldier is on the run after he hacked an officer to death with an axe then shot and killed two more soldiers at a base near the southern city of Voronezh, investigators say.
The military is searching for the fugitive - named as Private Anton Makarov - at the Baltimor airbase, the Investigative Committee (SK) says.
The soldier reportedly seized the officer's pistol, which he used to kill the other two, in the attack on Monday. A fourth soldier was shot and wounded.

Child Attacker Jailed For Life
A man who slit the throat of a 10-year-old boy as part of a string of random attacks has been jailed for life.
Carlos Vinodchandra Racitalal, 33, targeted victims unprovoked at various locations in Leicester, his trial heard. He drove into a five-year-old girl and attacked a mother, who was with her two young children, and a lone shopper.
The judge said it was no exaggeration to say the 10-year-old boy "came within millimetres of death".
Racitalal, formerly of Finsbury Road, was convicted of attempted murder on Thursday and sentenced earlier to 21 years at Leicester Crown Court.

Kosovo's President Resigns To Face War Crimes Trial
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has resigned from office, announcing that a special court at The Hague is indicting him for war crimes.
There was no immediate confirmation from The Hague. But a special prosecutor submitted accusations in June covering Kosovo's 1998-9 independence war against Serbia. Mr Thaci denies any wrongdoing.
His decision comes hours after veteran Kosovo politician Jakup Krasniqi was arrested and taken to the Hague.

UK Terror Threat Raised To Severe
The UK's terrorism threat level has been upgraded from "substantial" to "severe".
The move means security chiefs believe that an attack is highly likely but there is no specific intelligence of an imminent incident. The move follows Monday night's shooting in Vienna in which four people died.
Last week, three others died in a knife attack in Nice, France, and a teacher was murdered in Paris last month.

Manhunt In Austria After Terror Attack Leaves Four Dead
Austrian police have urged people to stay indoors as they hunt for suspects after a multiple gun attack in the capital Vienna that killed four people.
A gunman shot dead by police has been identified as a 20-year-old "Islamist terrorist" who was released early from jail in December.
Two men and two women died of their wounds after gunmen opened fire at six locations in the city centre on Monday evening. Twenty-two people were wounded.

At Least 19 Killed After Gunmen Storm Kabul University
Nineteen students have been killed by gunmen who stormed Kabul University before engaging security forces in an hours-long battle on Monday.
A spokesman for the Afghan interior ministry said the attack was eventually stopped when three gunmen were killed. A regional Islamic State group claimed responsibility in a statement.
The attack began shortly before the expected arrival of government officials for an Iranian book fair and continued for several hours.

Three Dead In Suspected Terrorist Knife Attack In Southern France
Three people have been killed in a knife attack at a church in the French city of Nice, police say.
Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi said there had been a "terrorist attack at the heart of the Notre-Dame basilica".
One elderly victim who had come to pray was "virtually beheaded". A suspect was shot and detained shortly afterwards. Mr Estrosi spoke of "Islamo-fascism" and that the suspect had "repeated endlessly 'Allahu Akbar' (God is greatest)."
President Emmanuel Macron is on his way to the scene. France's national anti-terror prosecutors have opened a murder inquiry.

Dorset Police Officer Jailed For 10 Years
A police officer who strangled a mother of two after she exposed their affair to his wife has been jailed.
Timothy Brehmer killed nurse Claire Parry, 41, after they met in a pub car park in Dorset on 9 May. The two had been involved in a secret relationship for more than 10 years, a trial at Salisbury Crown Court heard.
Brehmer, 41, who admitted manslaughter and was acquitted of murder by a jury on Tuesday, has been jailed for 10 and a half years.

MOD Worker Denies Breaching Official Secrets Act
A former defence worker breached the Official Secrets Act when he allegedly leaked details of a UK missile system "upon which the security of the realm partly depends", a court heard.
Simon Finch, 50, from Swansea, is accused of sharing technical details classified as "top secret". He denies recording and disclosing secret defence information and refusing to give authorities access codes to three electronic devices.
Mr Finch is on trial at The Old Bailey.
