    A terminal at London's Heathrow Airport was evacuated due to "a potentially suspicious item", the airport said.

    Passengers reported on social media that they had been told to leave Terminal 2 shortly before 13:00 BST amid a large police presence.

    A spokesperson for the airport said they had been evacuated "as a precaution" but the item was found to "not pose a safety risk".

    Operations at the airport "are now back to normal", the spokesperson said.

  • Japan Serial Killer Pleads Guilty To Murdering Nine People

    A Japanese man has pleaded guilty to murdering nine people after contacting them on Twitter, in a high-profile case that has shocked the country.

    Dubbed the "Twitter killer", Takahiro Shiraishi was arrested in 2017 after body parts were found in his flat. He told a court in Tokyo on Wednesday that the allegations against him "are all correct". But his lawyers argue that his charges should be reduced because his victims apparently gave consent to be killed.

    If convicted of murder, Mr Shiraishi faces the death penalty, which is carried out by hanging in Japan.

  • Murder Investigation After Double Shooting In Car

    Two men have died after being found shot in a car at an industrial estate.

    The men were found critically injured inside the vehicle near units off Moor Street in Brierley Hill, Dudley, just before 15:30 BST on Wednesday. They died at the scene. A post-mortem examination is due to take place.

    West Midlands Police have launched a double murder investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Officers believe the men were shot shortly after 13:00.

    This is the third shooting in the Black Country within three days.

    The suspect in the Sgt Matt Ratana murder inquiry watched violent videos at school and was obsessed with firearms.

    Louis De Zoysa, 23, from Norbury, who remains critically ill in hospital. Sgt Ratana, 54, died in hospital in the early hours of Friday after being shot at Croydon Custody Centre.

    A former schoolmate said Mr De Zoysa was "reclusive" but "used to brag about being on the dark web."

    Nearly 100 people, including civilians, have died as battles rage on between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

    The mountainous enclave is recognised as part of Azerbaijan, but has been run by Armenians since a war ended in 1994. The self-proclaimed republic has reported 84 military deaths since Sunday, as well as civilian victims.

    Azerbaijan has not revealed its military losses, but has confirmed seven civilian deaths.

  • Two Arrested After Paris Stabbings

    Two people have been stabbed and seriously hurt in Paris near the former offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

    Two suspects have been arrested. One of them was seized in the nearby Bastille area with blood on his clothing, police have said.

    Anti-terrorism police have taken over the investigation. A security cordon has been set up in the 11th arrondissement in eastern Paris. Nearby metro stations were closed and five schools in the area immediately went into lockdown. The schools were allowed to reopen some hours later.

  • Police Officer Shot Dead At Croydon Police Station

    A long-serving police officer has been shot dead at Croydon Custody Centre in south London.

    The male sergeant was shot in the chest before the suspect turned the firearm on himself. The man had been brought to the custody suite in a police vehicle and the shooting happened during questioning about Covid-19.

    A minute's silence has been held for the officer described by the Met Police chief as a "much-loved colleague".

    The victim, who has not been named, is thought to have been a few weeks away from retirement and was described as "one of a kind" by a colleague.

  • South Korean Official Shot Dead By North Korea

    A South Korean official has been shot dead and burned by North Korean troops, the South's defence ministry said, condemning the "brutal act".

    Seoul said the man, who worked for the fisheries department, disappeared from a patrol boat near the border and was later found in the North's waters.

    North Korean soldiers shot him, then poured oil over his body and set it alight, the ministry said. It believed it was an anti-coronavirus measure. Pyongyang has not commented.

    The Eiffel Tower has been evacuated after a bomb threat.

    Police cordoned off the Parisian landmark around midday Wednesday after an anonymous phone call was made claiming explosives had been left there.

    Armed officers could be seen at a cordon set up on nearby roads, while French media reported that explosives teams were searching the site. Roads leading to the landmark, in Paris's 7th arrondissement, have been closed while people are being told to avoid the area.
