    New Jersey's Governor and Republican presidential hopeful Chris Christie is to begin his three-day visit to the UK.

    Mr Christie will hold a series of meetings with top British politicians, including Prime Minister David Cameron.

    Officially, his trip is a trade mission to promote ties with New Jersey's third largest foreign partner, with $7bn (£4.6bn) in goods exchanged in 2014.

    But it is also seen as a chance to boost his foreign policy credentials ahead of the 2016 White House race.

    A company selling "fashionable" bullet-proof clothing has opened its first store in the Netherlands.

    Residents of Eindhoven can now stock up on the classic bullet-proof vest, but also suits, leather jackets and even ties, the Omroep Brabant website reports. The shop sells a Colombian brand of armoured clothing that is designed to look just like normal outfits, with vests thin enough to wear underneath a T-shirt.   • Coalition Formed Between Syriza And The Greek Independents After Greece Election

    The far-left Syriza party, the winner of Greece's election, has formed an anti-austerity coalition with a right-wing party, the Greek Independents.

    Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras has taken the oath as the new prime minister.

    He has vowed to renegotiate Greece's bailouts, worth €240bn (£179bn; $268bn).

    European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker congratulated Mr Tsipras while reminding him of the challenge of "ensuring fiscal responsibility".

    David Cameron has said there is an "economic, moral and practical" case for lower taxes as he set out his central election pledges on taxation.

    The prime minister said, under his plans, no-one would pay tax on the first £12,500 of their income by 2020.

    In a speech in Hampshire, he said the government had a track record of taking the lowest-paid out of tax altogether.

    But Nick Clegg said it was a "brazen attempt" by the Conservatives to take credit for a Liberal Democrat policy.

  • North-East Coast Of US Expecting 'Historic Blizzard'

    A "potentially historic blizzard" could dump up to 90cm (3ft) of snow on the US north-east coast, the National Weather Service (NWS) has warned.

    New York's mayor said the storm could be the city's biggest ever, telling residents to "prepare for the worst".

    Heavy snowfall is forecast from Philadelphia to Maine. More than 3,000 flights have already been cancelled.

    A blizzard warning has been issued for New York and Boston from Monday afternoon until Tuesday.

    More than 1,800 flights on Monday and more than 1,600 on Tuesday had been cancelled, according to the website FlightAware.

  • President Obama Attends India's Republic Day Parade

    US President Barack Obama has attended India's Republic Day parade in Delhi, the first US head of state to do so.

    Mr Obama was chief guest at the annual military parade. He arrived on Sunday for a three-day visit seen as a sign of warming ties between the two countries.

    After talks on Sunday, both sides announced a breakthrough on a pact that will allow US companies to supply India with civilian nuclear technology.

    Indian PM Narendra Modi said it was a "new journey" of co-operation.

  • Ugandan Rebel Leader Dominic Ongwen Appears At The Hague

    Top Ugandan rebel commander Dominic Ongwen has appeared in the dock at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to face war crimes charges.

    Mr Ongwen, a feared commander of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), is the first member of the LRA to appear before the court.

    During the pre-trial hearing he was asked to confirm his identity.

    He faces charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder and enslavement.

    The LRA is accused of seizing children to use as fighters and sex slaves.

    The prosecution is not expected to formally put its case for some time.

  • Seven Soilders Killed In Eastern Ukraine

    Seven Ukrainian soldiers have been killed fighting Russian-backed rebels in the east of the country over the past 24 hours, the military says.

    Ukraine said the troops were killed by shelling, mostly in the Luhansk region, that also left 24 soldiers injured.

    Violence in eastern Ukraine is at its worst level for months with a series of deadly attacks over the past week.

    On Saturday, a series of rocket attacks left 30 dead and many more injured in the Black Sea city of Mariupol.

  • Sons Of Hosni Mubarak Released From Jail

    The two sons of Hosni Mubarak have been released from jail, a day after the fourth anniversary of the uprising that ousted the former Egyptian president.

    Alaa and Gamal Mubarak walked free from Cairo's Torah Prison early on Monday and headed to their homes in the suburb of Heliopolis, security officials said.

    Last week, a court ordered that the two men be freed pending retrial along with their father for embezzlement.

    It found that they had already served the maximum pre-trial detention period.

  • Attack By Boko Haram Repelled By Nigeria's Military In Maiduguri

    Nigeria's military has repelled a new attack by militant Islamist group Boko Haram on the strategically important north-eastern city of Maiduguri, an army source has told the BBC.

    Dozens of militants and soldiers were reportedly killed during a major assault on the city on Sunday.

    The city is quiet on Monday, with some businesses open, a BBC reporter says.

    Earlier on Sunday, Boko Haram captured the north-eastern town of Monguno - the latest to be seized by the group.

    It launched an insurgency in north-eastern Nigeria in 2009 to create an Islamic state.
