• Border Attack Kills Many Troops In Yemen Crisis

    Three Saudi troops and "dozens" of Houthi rebels were killed as Saudi forces repelled a major attack from inside Yemen, Saudi officials say.

    The rebels attacked near the town of Najran, reports say, in what would be their biggest assault on Saudi soil since a Saudi military campaign began.

    A Saudi-led coalition has staged air strikes against rebels since late March in support of Yemen's exiled president.

    Meanwhile aid groups say a lack of fuel is threatening their operations there.

  • Civilians Killed In US Led Strikes On IS

    Air strikes by the US-led coalition targeting Islamic State militants have killed more than 50 civilians in northern Syria, activists say.

    The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based group, says Birmahle village was hit on Friday and that some people were still trapped in rubble.

    A spokesman for US Central Command it had "no information to corroborate allegations that coalition air strikes resulted in civilian casualties".

    But he said it was investigating.

  • Tragic Boat Accident Leaves One Dead In Devon

    One person died and three others were taken to hospital after a boat capsized in Brixham harbour in south Devon.

    Emergency services were called at 11:44 BST to reports a boat carrying a father, his teenage daughter and her two friends had capsized.

    Torbay inshore and all-weather lifeboats were called and the four were taken to Torbay hospital.

    The coastguard search and rescue teams from Berry Head and Torbay and the coastguard helicopter were also called.

    Specialist divers are at the scene and are expected to remove the capsized boat from near the entrance to the harbour.

  • Evans Cycles Sold In £100m Deal

    Evans Cycles has been sold in a deal thought to value the retailer at £100m.

    Private equity firm ECI Partners will take a majority stake in the business, which sells a bicycle range developed in conjunction with Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy.

    It is being sold by Active Private Equity, which bought its controlling interest in the then family-owned company for about £35m in 2008.

    At the time Crawley-based Evans had 31 outlets and annual sales of some £44m.

    It now has 56 shops and sales have risen by more than 300% under Active's ownership.

  • Wife Of Rio Ferdinand Dies From Cancer

    The wife of former Manchester United and England captain Rio Ferdinand has died from cancer.

    The QPR defender, 36, released a statement saying his "wonderful wife and soul mate" Rebecca Ellison had "passed away peacefully" at a London hospital.

    Ms Ellison, 34, who married Ferdinand in 2009, had breast cancer.

    She leaves behind three children, Lorenz, nine, Tate, six, and four-year-old Tia.

    In a statement, Ferdinand said she died on Friday night.

    Ruth Rendell was a leading member of the generation of writers who took crime fiction and turned it into literature.

    In a career spanning 50 years, she wrote more than 60 novels, as well as serving as a Labour member of the House of Lords.

    Her most famous creation was Inspector Wexford, who appeared in 24 books.

    But she also wrote more than two dozen standalone novels, and a further 14 under the pen-name Barbara Vine - an amalgam of her middle name and her great grandmother's maiden name.

    The passport numbers and Visa details of 31 world leaders were accidentally emailed to the organisers of the Asian Cup in Australia before the G20 summit in Brisbane in November 2014.

    Those affected included US President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

    A worker at the Australian Department of Immigration sent the list by mistake.

    The department decided there was no need to alert the G20 attendees.

  • Youngest Son Of Ex Ukraine President Dies In Car Accident

    The younger son of Ukraine's former President Viktor Yanukovych has drowned in Lake Baikal in Russia, reports say.

    Ukrainian MP Nestor Shufrych confirmed to the BBC the death of the ex-leader's son, who was also called Viktor.

    Earlier Russian and Ukrainian media reports said he died after his vehicle fell through ice on Lake Baikal in the south of the Russian region of Siberia.

    Reports say he had been taking part in a sporting event when the VW van plunged into the water.

    Five other people in the vehicle escaped, Ukrainian news website Levvy Bereg quoted sources from his inner circle as saying.
