Four European Countries Intercept Russian Blackjack Bombers
Two Russian Blackjack bombers were intercepted by fighter jets from four European countries as they flew from the direction of Norway to northern Spain and back, it has emerged.
Norway, the UK, France and Spain all scrambled jets as the TU-160 planes skirted the airspace of each country.
It comes at a time of heightened tension between the West and Russia. Correspondents say the frequency of Russian bombers being intercepted by Nato planes has increased markedly. Spanish media say it is the furthest south such an operation has had to take place.

30 Left Dead As IS Suicide Bomber Infiltrates Syrian Wedding
At least 30 people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack at a Kurdish wedding in north-eastern Syria.
The bomber blew himself up on Monday night at a hall in Tal Tawil, outside Hassakeh city, reportedly while the bride and groom were exchanging vows. There were conflicting reports about whether the groom was among the dead.

13,000 Turkish Police Officers Suspended After Failed Coup
Turkey has suspended almost 13,000 police officers for their alleged links with the US-based Muslim cleric, Fethullah Gulen.
The latest wave adds to the 100,000 or so government workers dismissed or suspended since July's failed coup. Mr Gulen denies the government's accusation that he or his supporters orchestrated the coup.
The government in turn rejects claims it is using the coup as an excuse to get rid of its opponents. It insists those without proven links to the coup will be freed.

Journalist From Netherlands Killed By IS Sniper
A Netherlands photojournalist has been shot dead by a sniper apparently belonging to the group known as Islamic State (IS) while reporting on the fighting in the Libyan city of Sirte.
Jeroen Oerlemans, 45, was killed while he was out with a team that clears mines. He was reporting from a part of the city recently freed from IS control.
Oerlemans was abducted and wounded in Syria in 2012 with British photographer John Cantlie, but freed a week later. Mr Cantlie was later abducted again, and is believed to remain in IS captivity.

Aunt & Uncle Fund Nephew In Syria Fighting For IS
A married couple from London have admitted providing funding for their nephew who was fighting in Syria with militants from the Islamic State group.
Mohammed and Nazimabee Golamaully, from Mitcham, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to transferring £219, knowing it may be used for terrorist purposes.
Nephew Zafirr Golamaully travelled from his home on the Indian Ocean island Mauritius to join IS. His uncle and aunt will be sentenced on 10 November. They did not tell Zafirr's parents and their money transfer was only discovered during a police investigation into a worldwide network of terrorism fun…

Paris Gunmen Rob Kim Kardashian Of Jewellery Worth Millions
Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint at a luxury residence in Paris by at least two men dressed as police officers, her publicist and police say.
A police spokesman said the haul from the robbery, mostly jewellery, was worth up to €6 million (£5.2m; $6.7m).
The concierge led the gunmen to the residence where they tied Kardashian up in the bathroom, police said. A spokeswoman for the star, who is 35, said she was "badly shaken but physically unharmed".
Reports say the star has now left France, flying out of a Paris airport aboard a private jet.

Motorway Closed In Germany Near Austrian Border As Bomb Making Items Found
German police closed a motorway at the Austrian border overnight after stopping a car carrying suspected bomb-making materials.
During a routine check at the Kiefersfelden border crossing, police found "explosive-like" materials in a Polish-registered car. The discovery triggered a major security operation. The police detained the Polish driver and his three African passengers, from Ivory Coast and Guinea.
The A93 motorway was later reopened.

Saudi Arabia Concerned Over 9/11 Relatives Seeking Damages
Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry has said it is a matter of "great concern" that 9/11 relatives in the US may be able to sue the kingdom for damages.
On Wednesday the US Congress voted for a law allowing families of nearly 3,000 people killed in the attacks to sue. In doing so they overrode a veto by President Barack Obama, who said it would set a "dangerous precedent".
Fifteen of the 19 hijackers that day were Saudi nationals, but the kingdom has denied any role in the attacks.

Philippine President Angers Jewish Leaders With Holocaust Remarks
Jewish leaders have reacted angrily after Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte compared his anti-drug campaign to the Holocaust.
The comment - wrongly citing numbers killed by the Nazis - was inhumane and deeply offensive, they said.
Mr Duterte said he would kill as many addicts as Hitler did Jews in his crackdown on users and dealers. "Hitler massacred three million Jews... there's three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them," he said.

Police Continue To Question Man On Double Murder
Police are continuing to question a man on suspicion of murdering a couple who were found stabbed on a Cardiff street near to where they worked.
Matalan workers Zoe Morgan, 21, and Lee Simmons, 33, were found dead close to the store on Queen Street at about 05:50 BST on Wednesday.
A man from Castleton, Newport, who is known to the couple, is in custody. He was arrested within an hour of their bodies being found and officers are not looking for anyone else.
