China has accused Indian troops of illegally crossing a disputed Himalayan border and firing "provocative" warning shots at patrolling soldiers.

China's military said its soldiers were "forced to take countermeasures", though it is not clear what they were. India rejected the allegations and accused Chinese troops of firing in the air during the face-off in the high-altitude Ladakh region. Relations between the countries have steadily deteriorated in recent months.

15 Year Old Student Shot On Way To School In Suffolk

A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a shooting as he made his way to school.

Officers were called just after 08:40 BST to the Grange Farm estate in Kesgrave, Suffolk, where a person was later seen receiving medical treatment.

Kesgrave High School said it had been told the incident involved one of its Year 11 students. The victim was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Suffolk Police have arrested a teenage boy in connection with the shooting.

An Essex and Herts Air Ambulance landed on a grass area and took off just before 10:00.

Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Birmingham Stabbings

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after one person died and seven others were injured in stabbings across Birmingham city centre.

The 27-year-old suspect was arrested at an address in the Selly Oak area of the city at about 04:00 BST, West Midlands Police said. Officers said he was also being held over seven counts of attempted murder.

Large Collection Of IS Material Discovered Online

One of the largest collections of online material belonging to the group calling itself Islamic State has been discovered by researchers at the Institute of Strategic Dialogue (ISD).

The digital library contains more than 90,000 items and has an estimated 10,000 unique visitors a month. Experts say it provides a way to continually replenish extremist content on the net. But taking it down is difficult because the data is not stored in one place. And despite counter-terrorism authorities in Britain and the US having been alerted to this growing repository, it continues to grow.

Western Fury Grows Over Alexei Navalny Novichok Poisoning

A top ally of German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned that the EU risks becoming irrelevant if it fails to act against Russia over the poisoning of opposition politician Alexei Navalny.

Norbert Röttgen said a major gas deal with Russia must now be reconsidered. The Russian government has been widely condemned after Germany confirmed on Wednesday that Mr Navalny had been poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent. He is gravely ill in intensive care in Berlin's Charité hospital.

Survey Reveals That Four In Ten Police Officers Have Been Assaulted

A survey of more than 40,000 police officers in England and Wales found that almost four in ten said they had been assaulted in the last year.

The research by the College of Policing also found 88% of officers said they had been assaulted during their career. Three-quarters of police officers said they wanted to carry Taser stun guns every day. But police chiefs are investigating racial disparities in Taser use.

Large US Cities See Surge In Murder Rates

President Donald Trump has said major US cities are seeing a spike in crime, and has offered to send in federal law enforcement to tackle the situation.

He has denounced a string of Democrat-run cities which are "plagued by violent crime". President Trump has said the crime rate in certain cities such as New York is "through the roof". But in many major US cities, including Chicago and New York, violent crime overall is down compared with the same time last year.

Police Arrest Top IS Commander In Turkey

Turkish police have arrested the top Islamic State (IS) commander in the country, the government says.

Mahmut Ozden had "important plans" in his possession and had received orders to carry out an attack, the Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said. He was detained in Adana province, and Mr Soylu said an operation was continuing against other IS figures.

Three Shot, Two Dead In Overnight Jacob Blake Protests

Two people have been killed and one injured during a third night of unrest in the US city of Kenosha, sparked by the police shooting of a black man.

Police said three people had been shot, but gave no details about who was involved. Local media reports earlier said the violence was believed to have stemmed from a conflict between protesters and armed men guarding a petrol station.

Crime Figures In England And Wales Fall During Covid-19 Lockdown

Crime in England and Wales fell by almost a third in the first two full months of lockdown, according to the Office for National Statistics.

This was driven by falls in reported thefts and burglary, the ONS said. But the ONS said drug crime rose by up to 44% compared with the same period last year, due to targeted policing.
