Drugs Are Main Focus Of London Gangs
London's gangs are now more concerned with profiting from the illegal drugs trade than engaging in turf wars with rivals, a study has suggested.
The report also found more women and girls are becoming involved in gang activity, while some groups use social media to gather personal details of police officers.
The university study centres on Waltham Forest in north-east London. It said there were up to 4,500 people in about 250 gangs in the capital.

Off-Duty FBI Officer Shoots Man By Mistake
An off-duty FBI agent accidentally shot a bystander in the leg when his gun fell from its holster as he cavorted on the dance-floor of a bar in Denver, Colorado, police said.
Video widely shared on Twitter shows the agent strutting his stuff and then performing a backflip. The gun falls to the floor and, as the agent goes to grab it, fires a shot.
The fellow customer hit by the bullet was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Security Services To Share Information On Terrorist Suspects
Home Secretary Sajid Javid has revealed plans for MI5 to declassify and share information on UK citizens suspected of having terrorist sympathies.
"Key" biographical data will be given to neighbourhood police, councils and the charity commission in London, Midlands and Manchester trial schemes.
Last year's wave of terror attacks showed the need for wider and more local exchange of information, he said. There must be no "safe spaces" for terror suspects anywhere, he said.

Police Officers Stabbed During Incident In Inverclyde
Two police officers are being treated in hospital after it is understood they were stabbed during an incident in Inverclyde.
They had been called to an address in Gateside Gardens, Greenock, at 08:45. It is thought a male police officer was stabbed in the neck while a female officer was stabbed in the arm.
The male is believed to be in a serious condition while the female officer suffered minor arm injuries -both of their families have been told. They are being treated at Inverclyde Royal Hospital along with a man detained by police at the scene.

European Court Of Human Rights Orders Lithuania And Romania To Pay Damages To Guantanamo Prisioners
European judges have ruled that Lithuania and Romania violated the rights of two al-Qaeda terror suspects by allowing the CIA to torture them.
The US captured Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri after the September 2001 attacks in the US and they are now at the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.
The CIA operated secret prisons, including in Lithuania and Romania. The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) said both countries had violated the European prohibition of torture. The ECHR issued a similar ruling against Poland in 2014.

'Assassinated' Journalist Appears Live On Ukrainian TV
Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko, widely reported to have been assassinated in Kiev on Tuesday, has turned up alive at a press conference.
In an extraordinary development, Babchenko, a high-profile critic of the Kremlin, appeared live on Ukrainian TV. He said he was informed a month ago that he was the target of a plot.
The head of Ukraine's security services, Vasyl Hrytsak, said the assassination was "ordered by Russian security services".
Ukrainian police said that they had made one arrest in connection with the alleged assassination plot.

al-Shabab Be-head Ten People In Mozambique
At least 10 people have been beheaded in northern Mozambique by suspected Islamist militants, officials say.
Children are reported to be among those targeted in the attack on Monjane village in Cabo Delgado province, a hub for mining and petroleum exploration.
An Islamist militant group has carried out sporadic attacks in the region in the last year. It is believed to be making millions of dollars from selling timber and rubies.
Known locally as al-Shabab, the group was formed in 2015 as a religious organisation and has no known links to the Somali jihadist group of the same name.

Three Killed In Belgian Terror Attack
A man has shot dead two female police officers and a civilian in the eastern Belgian city of Liège.
The gunman also took a female cleaner hostage at a school before being killed by police. Two other police officers were also injured.
The man's motive is not yet clear but the incident is being treated as terrorism.
Police sources quoted in local media said the man was heard shouting "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic).

Canada Police Launch Manhunt After Restaurant Bomb Detonated
Canadian police have launched a huge manhunt for two suspects who set off a homemade bomb at a restaurant in a Toronto suburb.
Peel Regional Police has asked for the public's help to identify the men behind the "horrendous act", which injured 15 people, three critically.
Two suspects entered the Bombay Bhel restaurant in Mississauga and detonated the improvised bomb on Thursday night.The pair then fled the scene after the blast at 22:30 local time.

Planned Cyber Attack On Ukraine Stopped By FBI
Preparations for a cyber-attack on Ukraine have been thwarted by the FBI.
It seized a website that was helping communicate with home routers infected with malware that would carry out the digital bombardment.
More than 500,000 routers in 54 countries had been infected by the "dangerous" malware and the FBI is now trying to clean up infected machines. The Kremlin has denied an allegation by Ukraine that Russia was planning a cyber-attack on the country.
