British Tourist Shot In Brazil
The Foreign Office is in touch with authorities in Brazil following reports a British woman was shot after mistakenly driving into a favela.
A couple and their three children were travelling in Angra dos Reis when their car was approached by an armed group, Brazilian newspaper O Globo reported.
According to the paper, the woman was shot in the abdomen on Sunday but is not thought to be at risk of death. The rest of the family were unhurt, the paper reported.

Terror Suspect Tried To Plant Bomb On Unsuspecting Brother
A terror suspect in Australia tried to smuggle a bomb on to a plane by planting it on his unsuspecting brother, say Australian police.
The plan was one of two alleged terror plots recently uncovered by authorities, who made several arrests across Sydney on Saturday.
The suspects were allegedly aided by the so-called Islamic State (IS). The other plot involved building and setting off a device that could release toxic gas in a public enclosed space.
Police said the plans had been "completely disrupted".

Man From Oxford Wanted In The US On Murder Charge
Police in the US say they "have an idea" of the whereabouts of an Oxford University college finance officer who is suspected of stabbing a 26-year-old man to death in Chicago.
Andrew Warren, 56, and his alleged accomplice, American Prof Wyndham Lathem, 42, have been urged to turn themselves in by police.
Restrictions are in place to prevent the pair leaving the country.
Trenton Cornell-Duranleau was found dead in Prof Lathem's flat on 27 July. Officers say the victim, a hairdresser who lived in Chicago, was found with multiple stab wounds in the 10th floor apartment.

Spanish Police Break Up Large Immigration Ring
Police in Spain say they have broken up a large immigration ring that smuggled Iranians as young as five into the UK.
The gang allegedly supplied fake Spanish passports to Iranian nationals so they could fly into the UK.
More than 100 people were arrested across Europe, including the suspected ringleader, who was apprehended at London's Heathrow airport.
The operation involved Spain's federal police, London's Metropolitan Police, and European crime agency Europol.

Three Jihadists Receive Life Terms For Terror Plot
Three would-be jihadists who dubbed themselves the Three Musketeers have been jailed for life for plotting an attack on a police or military target.
Naweed Ali, 29, Khobaib Hussain, 25, both of Sparkhill, Birmingham, and Mohibur Rahman, 33, of Stoke-on-Trent, had planned a "mass casualty attack". A fourth man, Tahir Aziz, 38, of Stoke, was also given a life term.
Old Bailey judge Mr Justice Globe said the men had been gripped by a "long-standing, radical, violent ideology".

Sanctions Imposed On Russia By President Trump
President Donald Trump has signed into a law a bill which imposes new sanctions on Russia for their alleged meddling in the 2016 election.
The bill, which was signed in private at the White House, also imposes sanctions on Iran and North Korea. The legislation "handcuffs" the president from easing penalties on Russia without congressional approval.
Russia denies interfering in the US election, and Mr Trump has denied colluding with Russia.

British Soldier Killed Himself To Avoid IS Capture
A Briton who died fighting alongside Kurdish forces in Syria killed himself to avoid falling hostage to Islamic State (IS) militants, an inquest heard.
Ryan Lock, 20, from Chichester, died in December with the People's Defence Units (YPG) in Raqqa.
When surrounded by IS fighters he turned his gun on himself to avoid capture and a "frightening and painful death", the hearing was told.

Old Bailey: Three Men Found Guilty Of Plotting Terror Attack
Three men who dubbed themselves the Three Musketeers have been found guilty of plotting a terror attack on a police or military target in the UK.
Naweed Ali, 29, and Khobaib Hussain, 25, both of Sparkhill, Birmingham, and Mohibur Rahman, 33, of Stoke-on-Trent, were convicted at the Old Bailey. They were arrested in August last year in an undercover police sting using a fake courier firm.
A fourth man, Tahir Aziz, 38, from Stoke-on-Trent, was also found guilty. They will be sentenced on Thursday.

Embassy Attack In Kabul Leaves Two Dead
Afghan security forces battled gunmen following a suicide attack outside the Iraqi embassy in the capital, Kabul.
A bomber blew himself up at the embassy's gate, then three other attackers entered the compound, the Afghan interior ministry said.
Two Afghan embassy employees were killed, and three people, including a police officer, were injured, a spokesperson said.
So-called Islamic State (IS) said it carried out the attack.

Russian Government Tells Poland Not To Remove World War Two Monuments
The Russian government has warned Poland that it will face sanctions if it removes monuments glorifying the Soviet victory in World War Two.
Last month Poland updated its "de-communisation" legislation, banning "totalitarian" symbols, which would include Soviet propaganda monuments.
Now Russian foreign ministry officials have warned of "asymmetric measures" if Poland removes Soviet war monuments.
Russia could refuse visas for Polish officials or downgrade trade relations. The officials, quoted by the Russian daily Izvestia, were not named.
