'Nuns' Attempt To Rob Bank In US
The FBI is searching for two women who tried to rob a bank in the US state of Pennsylvania dressed as nuns.
One of the women brandished a gun as she demanded money during the incident at a bank in the town of Tannersville on Monday.
Both were wearing black nun's habits and veils and one was wearing sunglasses.

Crime Is Children's Biggest Fear Reports Charity
British children's biggest fear is becoming a victim of crime, a survey has found.
Among 10 to 17-year-olds, almost 40% worry about crime and are particularly fearful of theft, being followed by a stranger or being assaulted.
The Children's Society's annual report, which surveyed 3,000 children and their parents, found that overall, levels of happiness continue to fall each year. It wants the government to increase funding for vulnerable children.

Military Style Equipment Supplied To US Police
US President Donald Trump has lifted restrictions imposed by Barack Obama on the transfer of surplus military-style equipment to the police.
An executive order provides police with items including bullet-proof helmets and armoured vehicles.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the aim was to enhance public safety.
Mr Obama barred the military from handing over some types of military equipment to police after unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

Missile Over Northern Japan Fired By North Korea
North Korea has fired a missile over northern Japan in a move Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called an "unprecedented" threat to his country.
The missile, launched early on Tuesday Korean time, flew over Hokkaido island before crashing into the sea.
The UN Security Council is expected to hold an emergency meeting in response.
North Korea has conducted a flurry of missile tests recently, but this is the first time it has fired what is thought to be a ballistic weapon over Japan.

More Than 300 Number Plates Banned By DVLA
More than 300 number plates have been banned from use when the 67 vehicle registrations are released next week.
The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has withheld them because they are deemed potentially offensive.
Among those are MU67 DER, BU67 GER, DO67 GER, BA67 ARD, MU67 GER, HU67 WLY and OR67 SAM. Other "words" like AF67 HAN and NE67 ECT also make the list.
A DVLA spokesman said it had a responsibility to ensure plates do not "cause upset or offence". In June, the Swansea-based agency admitted that a plate JH11 HAD "slipped through the net".

Iraqi Forces Break Through IS Defences In Tal Afar
Iraqi forces say they have broken through the defences of so-called Islamic State (IS) and reached the centre of the city of Tal Afar.
A spokesman said troops had also reached the neighbourhood around the old citadel.
Tal Afar, near the Syrian border, is one of the jihadists' last remaining strongholds in Iraq after they were driven out of the city of Mosul.
The Iraqi offensive on Tal Afar has been under way for six days. It involves similar forces to those that finally recaptured Mosul, but also includes some units of a mainly Shia militia.

Rock Concert Cancelled In Rotterdam Due To Terror Threat
Police have arrested a 22-year-old man in the southern Dutch province of Brabant, hours after a rock concert was cancelled because of an alert from Spanish police.
The man was detained in the early hours of Thursday as part of the inquiry into the terror threat, said police.
The alarm on Wednesday centred on a gig involving US band the Allah-Las, due to perform in Rotterdam's Maassilo.

More Than 56,000 Migrant Attempts Foiled By Border Force Police
Border Forces foiled an average of 153 attempts by migrants trying to get to the UK from France every day last year.
More than 56,000 attempts were made by people trying to get into Kent from French ports and terminals in 2016.
The government figures, released under freedom of information, are the second highest in seven years, despite dropping by 25,000 compared to 2015.

Two Rival Criminal Gangs Receive Birmingham Injunction
Two rival criminal groups have been hit with what police describe as the largest ever gang injunction.
Eighteen men, aged between 19 and 29 and some in prison, are banned from parts of Birmingham and must register phones and vehicles with police.
The two-year orders aim to disrupt gang-related violence between the Burger Bar Boys and Johnson Crew. West Midlands Police said it was "a landmark ruling".
The orders follow a spate of firearms offences in the city in 2015 and 2016, but the gangs have struck fear across parts of Birmingham for many years.

Russian Air Strike Kills Dozens Of IS Militants
Dozens of so-called Islamic State (IS) militants are reported to have been killed in a Russian air strike near the eastern Syrian city of Deir al-Zour.
Russia's defence ministry said at least 200 jihadists had died after its air force targeted a convoy of about 20 4x4s, armoured vehicles and tanks. It did not say when the strike took place, but a monitoring group reported that a convoy had been hit last Friday.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll at 70.
