Taxi Driver Arrested On Suspicion Of Killing British Diplomat In Beirut
Police in Lebanon have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a British diplomat in Beirut.
The body of Rebecca Dykes, who worked at the British Embassy in the city, was found by a motorway on Saturday.
Police sources said the suspect was a taxi driver and Ms Dykes had been sexually assaulted and strangled. Her family said in a statement: "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca. We are doing all we can to understand what happened." They added: "We request that the media respect our privacy."

Iraq Executes 38 On Terror Charges
Iraq says it has hanged, in a mass execution, 38 jihadist militants convicted of terrorism offences.
The justice ministry said they were all members of so-called Islamic State (IS). The death sentences were carried out in a prison in the southern city of Nasiriyah.
However, international advocacy groups have repeatedly criticised Iraq's use of the death penalty and how terrorism charges are brought.
It was the largest mass execution since 25 September when 42 militants were hanged.

Man Shot And Arrested At Schipol Airport
Dutch police say they have shot and arrested a man who wielded a knife at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.
The emergency prompted the authorities to evacuate part of Schiphol, one of Europe's biggest airports.
The situation is under control, the military police tweeted.

Israel Carries Out Air Strikes In The Gaza Strip
Israel has carried out fresh air strikes in the Gaza strip on what it said were military facilities belonging to the Islamist group Hamas.
The Israeli military said its aircraft had targeted training camps and weapons storage compounds. The strikes happened after four rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israeli territory.
Later, the Israeli military announced it had closed two border crossings with Gaza "due to the security events". It did not say how long Kerem Shalom, which is the main entry point for goods entering Gaza, and Erez, which is used by pedestrians, would be shut.

Yemen Prison Almost Demolished In Saudi Air Strikes
At least 30 people are reported to have been killed in Saudi-led coalition air strikes on a rebel military police camp in Yemen's capital, Sanaa.
Most of the dead were said to be detainees at a prison inside the camp. A guard said an initial attack damaged one wing of the jail, prompting some inmates to try to escape. Then another strike almost demolished the building.
The coalition backs Yemen's government in its war against the Houthi rebel movement.
More than 8,670 people have been killed and 49,960 injured since the coalition intervened in the conflict in 2015, according to the UN.

Gang Who Smuggled Drugs And Phones Into Prisons Jailed
The ringleader of a gang who smuggled drugs and phones into prisons using drones has been jailed for seven years and two months.
Former armed robber Craig Hickinbottom, 35, organised the flights from behind bars, Birmingham Crown Court was told. His gang put contraband worth an estimated £1m into jails as far apart as the West Midlands and Scotland.
The packages were attached to fishing lines and flown over prison walls. Nine others were also sentenced.

New York Explosion Was Attempted Terror Attack
The suspect being held after an attempted terror attack at New York City's main bus terminal has said it was in retaliation for US attacks on so-called Islamic State, US media say.
Akayed Ullah, a 27-year-old Bangladeshi immigrant, was injured when a "low-tech explosive device" went off at the Port Authority terminal in Manhattan.

Arrests Made After Man Suffers Kidnapping Ordeal
Two men have been arrested by police investigating a kidnapping ordeal that lasted 50 hours. The 24-year-old victim was stripped naked, tied up and beaten after being lured to a house in Thornton Heath, Croydon by two acquaintances. He was set up by an armed gang who took his keys and burgled his parents' home.
Two men, aged 29 and 19, have been arrested on suspicion of kidnap after CCTV was released in a public appeal by the Met Police. The pair are being questioned at a south London police station.

One Person Arrested After Explosion At New York Bus Terminal
New York City Police say they are responding to reports of an explosion at a bus terminal in Manhattan.
The incident reportedly happened on Monday morning at the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square.
"The NYPD is responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave, Manhattan," tweeted the department. "The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available."
ABC News quotes police sources as saying that a possible pipe bomb was detonated in a passageway below ground at the terminal.

Japan To Acquire New Defence Missiles
Japan plans to acquire medium-range air-to-surface missiles, expanding its strike capability to North Korea.
The announcement by Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera comes amid regular missile tests by North Korea and increased tensions between the nations.
