• Luton Fight Leaves Seven Injured

    Seven people are being treated in hospital - one of whom is in a critical condition - after a brawl in Luton.

    Police were called after reports of a "large number of individuals fighting" in Saxon Road in the town at about 17:00 BST on Sunday.

    In a post on Twitter, the Bedfordshire force said there had been "reports of stab wounds".

    A cordon is in place at the scene and witnesses are being asked to come forward.

    One man who lives nearby said: "I know that one guy got stabbed and I think it was gang-affiliation.

  • Inquest Into Westminster Attack Hear Witness Accounts

    "Distressing" and "vivid" footage of the moment PC Keith Palmer was stabbed outside Parliament during last year's Westminster attack has been shown to an inquest into the victims' deaths.

    Khalid Masood killed the unarmed officer after driving into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge on 22 March 2017. Kurt Cochran, 54, Leslie Rhodes, 75, Aysha Frade, 44, and Andreea Cristea, 31, were also killed.

    Mobile phone footage of people rushing to offer first aid was also shown. Masood was shot dead by armed officers during the attack.

  • Russian Men Named In Poisoning Claim To Be Tourists

    Two men named as suspects in the poisoning of a Russian ex-spy in the UK have said they were merely tourists.

    The men, named as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, told the RT channel they travelled to Salisbury on two consecutive days because bad weather cut short their visit on the first day.

    They are accused by the UK of trying to kill Russian ex-spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in March. The UK says they are agents of Russia's military intelligence service, the GRU.

  • Car Driven At Pedestrians In China Kills At Least Three

    A man has driven a car into a busy square in southern China, killing at least three people and injuring 43, local government officials say.

    The car drove into the square in Hengyang city, Hunan province, at 19:40 local time (12:40 BST). Local media say that some victims appeared to have been stabbed.

    The driver, who has a criminal record, has been detained, officials say.

    Officials have not said whether the incident is terror related.

    Video footage from the scene on Chinese media shows people running out of a packed square.

  • Turkish Man Arrested In Syria For Twin Bomb Attacks

    A Turkish intelligence agency has captured in Syria the chief suspect in the 2013 twin bomb attack in the border town of Reyhanli, Turkish media report.

    State-run Anadolu news agency said the National Intelligence Organisation had apprehended Yusuf Nazik, a Turkish citizen, in the port city of Latakia. He had confessed to "acting on orders from Syrian intelligence", it added.

    The Syrian government has denied that it played any role in the Reyhanli attack, which left 53 people dead.

    Russia has launched its biggest military exercise since the Cold War, involving about 300,000 service personnel, in eastern Siberia.

    China is sending 3,200 troops to take part in "Vostok-2018", with many Chinese armoured vehicles and aircraft. Mongolia is also sending some units.

    The last Russian exercise of similar scale was in 1981, during the Cold War, but Vostok-2018 involves more troops.

  • Report By NAO Shows Impact Of Police Funding Cuts

    Ministers do not know the impact that funding cuts have had on police forces, the UK's public spending watchdog says.

    According to the National Audit Office, the Home Office does not know whether the police system in England and Wales is "financially sustainable". It calls the approach to police funding "ineffective" and "detached" from the changing demands faced by officers.

    A Home Office spokesman said the department had conducted a substantial review of police pressures last year.

  • Group Of Armed Men Enter Oil Corporation Headquarters In Tripoli

    An armed group has stormed the headquarters of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) in Libya's capital, Tripoli.

    Security forces clashed with the armed men at the landmark building in the centre of the city, and blasts and gunfire could be heard, witnesses say.

    Last week, the UN announced a truce between warring militias had been agreed in the capital.

    A UN-backed government is nominally in power in Tripoli. However, militias occupy much of the rest of the country.

  • Knife Attacker Injures Seven In Paris

    Seven people have been injured, four seriously, in an attack by a man wielding a knife and an iron bar in the French capital Paris, police say.

    The attack took place just before 23:00 (21:00 GMT) on the banks of a canal in Paris's 19th district. People playing pétanque - a French bowling game - threw balls at the attacker to try to stop him.

    The man, said to be Afghan, was later arrested. The incident is currently not being treated as a terrorist attack.

    The man initially stabbed two men and a woman near the MK2 cinema on the quai de Loire, along the Ourcq canal, reports say.

  • Head Of GCHQ Warns Russia Is A Real Threat

    Russia's threat to the international community is "real" and "active", the head of GCHQ has warned.

    Jeremy Fleming's comments came after the US, France, Germany and Canada agreed with the UK that Russia was behind the Salisbury Novichok attack.

    In a speech in Washington, Mr Fleming said Russia's desire to "undermine" international law was "brazen".

    At a UN Security Council meeting to discuss the attack, Russia dismissed evidence presented by the UK as "lies".
