• Suicide Bombers Target Nigerian Mosque

    Two female suicide bombers have attacked a mosque in the north-eastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, killing 22 worshippers, the army says.

    The first bomber struck inside the mosque, while the second blew herself up outside as survivors tried to flee. Eighteen other people were wounded in the attack, the army added.

  • US Student Receives 15 Year Sentence In North Korea

    US student Otto Warmbier has been given 15 years hard labour in North Korea for crimes against the state.

    Warmbier, 21, was arrested for trying to steal a propaganda sign from a hotel while visiting North Korea in January.

    He later appeared on state TV apparently confessing and saying a church group had asked him to bring back a "trophy" from his trip. North Korea sometimes uses the detention of foreigners as a means of exerting pressure on its adversaries.

  • Algerian National Shot Dead In Brussels Raid

    A terrorism suspect shot dead in a raid in a Brussels suburb on Tuesday has been identified as Algerian national Mohamed Belkaid, officials say.

    He was killed by snipers while trying to fire at police from an apartment window in the suburb of Forest.Several officers were wounded in the raid. Police are still hunting two suspects who were in the apartment.

    The raid was linked to an investigation into the jihadist attacks in Paris that killed 130 people last November.The so-called Islamic State (IS) militant group said it carried out the attacks.

  • Counter Terrorism Raid In Brussels

    Belgian security forces are hunting for at least two men after shots were fired at police during a counter-terrorism raid in the capital, Brussels.

    Three officers were reportedly hurt, one of them seriously. Streets in the suburb of Forest have been sealed off . The raid is linked to the Paris attacks which killed 130 people last November. Islamic State (IS) militants have claimed responsibility for the attacks.

    An Uber driver who is accused of killing six people in the US state of Michigan has told police that the Uber app took over his "mind and body", setting off his shooting spree.

    Police said Jason Dalton, 45, carried out the shootings on 20 February while working for the ride-sharing company."When I logged onto \[the Uber app\], it started making me feel like a puppet," Mr Dalton told investigators.

    He claims that the smartphone program told him to kill his victims.

    Jailed Norwegian mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik has given a Nazi salute upon returning to court to argue that his isolation violates his rights.

    The right-wing extremist compared his imprisonment to "torture" but the state says he is being treated fairly.

    Breivik killed 77 people in 2011 when he bombed central Oslo before going on a shooting spree at a Labour Youth camp on the island of Utoya.He was sentenced to 21 years in prison in 2012. Tuesday's hearing, in a prison gym converted into a court, marks his first public appearance since then.

  • Driver Killed From Car Bomb Attack In Berlin

    An "explosive device" has gone off in a car in Berlin, killing the driver, German police say.

    The explosion occurred as the car was moving through the western district of Charlottenburg, heading towards the city centre. It flipped the vehicle up in the air, officials said.

    Police told residents in the area to close their windows and stay in the back of their apartments. But bomb disposal teams later said there was no risk of more explosions.

    Russian forces have started leaving Syria after Monday's surprise withdrawal announcement by President Vladimir Putin.

    Russian defence ministry video showed the first group of aircraft taking off from Hmeimim air base in Syria on Tuesday morning and later in flight. But Russia will continue air strikes, and keep several hundred personnel and air defence systems, officials said.

    A Welsh holidaymaker who acted as a human shield to save his partner during the Tunisia terror attack is to receive an award, it has been announced.

    Mathew James, 30, from Pontypridd, was shot three times while protecting his fiancee Saera Wilson.

    St John Cymru-Wales revealed Mr James has been awarded a silver Life Saving Medal for his "conspicuous act of gallantry".

  • Beach Resort Attack On Ivory Coast Leaves 16 Dead

    Militants have killed at least 16 people in a gun attack on a beach resort in southern Ivory Coast.

    The attackers fired on beach-goers in Grand Bassam, about 40km (25 miles) from the commercial capital Abidjan. The resort is popular with both locals and foreigners. Four of the dead were Westerners, including a French and a German national, officials say.

    Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) said it launched the attack. The gunmen have been "neutralised", officials say. Ivory Coast was once one of the most stable countries in West Africa.
