• Luton Man Convicted On Terror Charges

    A delivery driver from Luton has been convicted of plotting to kill a US airman outside a base in East Anglia.

    Junead Khan, 25, a supporter of so-called Islamic State (IS), was found guilty of preparing terrorist acts. Khan had driven past RAF Lakenheath and other US bases on his delivery route, and had discussed staging a car crash and attacking a soldier with a knife.

    He was also convicted of preparing to join IS in Syria. His uncle Shazib Khan was also convicted of the same charge.

  • Air Strike In Syria Kills More Than 30

    The US says it is "appalled" by reports that Syrian government air strikes killed more than 30 people in a rebel-held suburb of Damascus on Thursday.

    The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 12 children were among those who died in the raids near a school and a hospital in Deir al-Asafir. The US said it condemned any attacks directed at civilians.

  • Russian Journalist Stabbed To Death

    Noted Russian journalist Dmitry Tsilikin has been found stabbed to death in his flat in St Petersburg.

    Mr Tsilikin, 54, was found on Thursday evening after friends and family had been unable to contact him. His mobile phone and computer are missing. Police have opened a murder inquiry.

    Mr Tsilikin was a well-known culture and arts critic, working on TV and radio as well as for print media such as Kommersant, Vogue and Elle. Mr Tsilikin had reportedly just returned from a trip to the Latvian capital, Riga. Friends and family last spoke to him at the end of last week.

  • Brussels Airport To Remain Closed

    Plans to partially reopen Brussels airport on Friday evening have been halted amid a strike by airport police over security concerns.

    The Zaventem facility has been closed since a twin suicide bomb attack on the departures hall on 22 March. The SLFP police union told the BBC that security measures put in place for the reopening were insufficient.

    So-called Islamic State (IS) said it carried out bombings of the airport and metro system that killed 32 people.

  • Six Soilders Die In Boko Haram Attack

    Six soldiers from Niger's army were killed in an ambush by Boko Haram militants, the country's interior ministry said.

    The attack happened near the town of Diffa close to the border with Nigeria early on Wednesday.

    It comes two weeks after a Boko Haram assault on a military convoy in the same area that left one soldier dead. The Islamist group is based in Nigeria but is being tackled by a multinational force, including soldiers from Niger.

  • French National Found To Have Unprecedented Amount Of Weapons

    A French national arrested in Paris last week had an "unprecedented" amount of weapons and was planning an act of "extreme violence", officials say.

    Prosecutors have charged 34-year-old Reda Kriket over an alleged plot to carry out an attack. In his apartment, police found five assault rifles, seven handguns and the same type of explosive used in the attacks in Paris and Brussels.

    Kriket has been linked to the suspected ringleader of the Paris attacks. The possible target of the alleged plan was not identified, but Paris prosecutor Francois Molins said the attack was imminent.

    India has rejected Pakistan's claims that it has arrested an "Indian spy" in the restive Balochistan province. Pakistani authorities on Tuesday released a video in which the man is shown confessing that he was involved in spying activities. "There can be no clearer evidence of Indian interference in Pakistan," army spokesman Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said.

  • Cyprus Court Detains EgyptAir Hijacker

    An Egyptian man accused of hijacking and forcing a plane to land in Cyprus on Tuesday using a fake suicide belt has appeared in court in Cyprus.

    The Larnaca court ordered an eight-day detention for Seif Eldin Mustafa. Possible charges include air piracy, kidnapping and threatening behaviour.

    He did not speak, but gave a victory sign as he was driven away by police. Cypriot authorities have described him as "psychologically unstable", saying the incident was not terrorism-related.

  • Hijack Of EgyptAir Flight Not Terror Related

    Most of the passengers on board a hijacked Egyptian airliner that was forced to divert to Cyprus have been freed, the airline says.

    EgyptAir Flight MS181 was taken over after a passenger said he was wearing an explosives belt.

    Reports say the lone hijacker wants to talk to his estranged Cypriot wife, who is now on the way to the airport. Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades told reporters the hijack was not a terrorist incident. "We are doing our upmost in order for everyone to be released and safe," he added.

  • Pakistan Prime Minister Urges More Action On Terror

    Pakistan's PM has urged better co-ordination between security agencies against terror, a day after a suicide bomb killed more than 70 in Lahore.

    At a meeting of security officials, Nawaz Sharif said the nation's resolve to deal with militants was growing. A number of arrests were made and weapons seized in five raids by security forces, the army said.

    Taliban splinter group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar said it carried out the attack against Christians celebrating Easter.
