• Policeman Seriously Injured In South Yorkshire

    A police officer is in hospital after being seriously injured in an attack in Doncaster.

    South Yorkshire Police said they were called to reports of a vehicle crash on Cleveland Street at about 07:30 BST.

    The officer was assaulted when three people fled the area, running towards Cherry Tree Lane.

    The full extent of his injuries is not yet known, the force said. Two men and a woman have been arrested and are in custody.

  • M1 Closed After Discovery Of Suspicious Object

    The M1 remains closed in both directions after a "suspicious object" was found underneath a bridge.

    Motorists have been stranded for hours on the 11 mile (18km) stretch between junctions 15 at Northampton and 14 at Milton Keynes.

    A bomb disposal unit was earlier seen travelling along the hard shoulder towards the scene. The Ministry of Defence confirmed it had provided police with "explosive ordnance device assistance".

    Highways England has posted diversions but it is unclear when the road will reopen.

  • Acid Attack In France On US Tourists

    Two US tourists have had hydrochloric acid thrown in their faces at Marseille train station, French media say.

    The victims, both in their early 20s, received treatment in hospital, but were released later in Sunday.

    Two other members of their group were also attacked at Saint-Charles station, but did not get acid in their faces.

    The incident is not believed to be terror-related. The attacker, described by police as a mentally unstable 41-year-old woman, has been arrested. The report says she remained at the site after the attack, and showed photographs of herself with burns.

  • Police Still Questioning Parsons Green Bomb Suspects

    Police are continuing to question two men on suspicion of terror offences following Friday's attack on a Tube train in south-west London.

    It comes as CCTV images emerged showing a man carrying a Lidl supermarket bag 90 minutes before the bombing.

    An 18-year-old and 21-year-old are being held over the explosion, which injured 30 at Parsons Green station.

    The UK terror threat level has been lowered to severe after being raised to critical, its highest level.

  • Two Men Arrested In Connection With Parsons Green Bombing

    A second man has been arrested in connection with Friday's attack on a London Tube train, police said.

    The 21-year-old man was arrested in Hounslow, west London, on Saturday night on suspicion of a terror offence and is in custody in south London.

    An 18-year-old man is also being held on suspicion of a terror offence over the Parsons Green explosion.

    Home Secretary Amber Rudd said that the second arrest suggests the attacker was not "a lone wolf".

  • London Tube Train Blast Being Treated As Terror Attack

    An explosion on a Tube train in south-west London is being treated as terrorism, Scotland Yard has said.

    Passengers were injured following the blast at 08:20 BST (07:20 GMT) at Parsons Green station in Fulham.

    Pictures show a white bucket on fire inside a supermarket bag, but do not appear to show extensive damage to the inside of the Tube train carriage.

    The Metropolitan Police said it was too early to confirm the cause of the fire and the station has been cordoned off.

  • Second Ballistic Missile From North Korea Fired Over Japan

    North Korea has fired a ballistic missile across Japan, creating new tension in the region after its nuclear bomb test less than two weeks ago.

    The missile reached an altitude of about 770km (478 miles), travelling 3,700km before landing in the sea off Hokkaido, South Korea's military says. It flew higher and further than one fired over Japan late last month.

    Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said his country would "never tolerate" such "dangerous provocative action".

    South Korea responded within minutes by firing two ballistic missiles into the sea in a simulated strike on the North.

  • Iraq Hit By Two Terror Attacks

    At least 50 people have been killed in two attacks in southern Iraq, health officials say.

    In the first attack, a suicide bomber detonated his vest and gunmen opened fire inside a roadside restaurant near Nasiriya, the capital of Dhiqar province, security sources said.

    Soon afterwards, a car bomb exploded at a nearby checkpoint.

    So-called Islamic State said it carried out the attacks. A number of Iranians are thought to be among the dead.

    More than 80 people were injured in the attacks, many of them seriously, and the death toll could rise, health officials said.

  • Birmingham Shooting Leaves Man Dead

    A man has been shot dead in what police described as a "shocking and cold-blooded killing".

    The 34-year-old was shot in Great Hampton Row, Hockley, Birmingham, on Wednesday evening. He was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

    Great Hampton Row remained cordoned off on Thursday as investigations continue. It is the latest in a series of shootings in the city, with West Midlands Police recording 132 incidents of shots being fired since January.

    The man has been identified but is not being named at this stage. Any witnesses are asked to come forward.

  • Chinese Born New Zealand MP Denies Spy Allegations

    A New Zealand MP has denied allegations he is a Chinese spy, saying he has been the target of a racist smear campaign.

    It is alleged that Chinese-born Jian Yang, 55, was investigated by New Zealand's intelligence services for his links to Chinese military academies. But PM Bill English did not confirm whether Mr Yang had been investigated.
