    The spy agency's computer security chief has written to political parties offering advice on preventing hacks, according to The Sunday Times.

    US intelligence officials have accused the Kremlin of using cyber-attacks to influence the November election. But Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said there was so far no evidence of successful attacks in the UK.

    He is already serving two life terms for several killings in the name of Palestinian and communist causes.

    Carlos, whose real name is Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, was given his nickname when he was one of the world's most wanted terror suspects. He spent years on the run before being captured in 1994 in Sudan.

  • Netherlands Warns Citizens On Travel To Turkey After Row

    The Netherlands has warned its citizens over travel to Turkey as a row between the countries shows no sign of abating.

    Germany, Austria and the Netherlands blocked Turkish attempts to hold rallies in those countries.

    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed retaliation, accusing them of "Nazism".

    On Monday, the Dutch foreign ministry issued a new travel warning, urging its citizens in Turkey to take care and noting the new "diplomatic tensions". The warning to "avoid gatherings and crowded places" came as Turkey's foreign ministry lodged a formal protest with the Dutch envoy.

  • Seven Injured In German Axe Attack

    Seven people have been injured in an axe attack at the main railway station in the western German city of Duesseldorf, police say.

    The attack happened at about 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT) on Thursday.

    One man has been arrested. The 36-year-old suspect from the former Yugoslavia suffers from psychological problems, Duesseldorf police said.

    They said the assailant "attacked people at random". No fatalities have been reported. One person was injured seriously, and the attacker was also badly injured after jumping from a bridge while trying to escape, police said. He is being treated in a hospital.

  • Many Killed At Iraq Wedding By IS Suicide Bombers

    Two suicide bombers have blown themselves up, killing 26 people, as wedding guests gathered in a village near the Iraqi city of Tikrit.

    So-called Islamic State said two of its fighters had carried out the attack in the village of Hajaj on Wednesday.

    The first detonated an explosive vest among men who were dancing, then a second bomber targeted those who had gathered to help, officials said.

    Most of the dead were children, a local government spokesman told AP.

    IS said it had targeted a gathering of the Popular Mobilization Forces, a coalition of mostly Shia paramilitaries backed by Iran.

  • War Memorial Unveiled By Queen In London

    A memorial dedicated to those who served in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars has been unveiled by the Queen in central London on Thursday.

    The sculpture by Paul Day also marks the contribution made by civilians in the conflicts. It is formed of two stone monoliths and a bronze medallion. Its unveiling in Victoria Embankment Gardens followed a service for 2,500 veterans on Horse Guards Parade.

  • Dozens Killed At Military Hospital In Kabul By IS Gunmen

    More than 30 people have been killed after attackers dressed as doctors stormed the largest military hospital in Kabul, Afghan officials say.

    Militants armed with guns and grenades gained entry after one detonated explosives at a hospital gate and then opened fire on staff and patients.

    Commandos who landed on the Sardar Daud hospital roof killed all four attackers after several hours of fighting. The so-called Islamic State (IS) group has claimed the attack. The Taliban has denied any involvement.

    More than 50 people were also wounded, the defence ministry said.

  • Attack On Saudi King Salman Foiled By Malaysian Police

    Malaysian police say they have foiled a planned attack on Arab royals by suspected militants from Yemen.

    Four Yemenis and three other suspects including a Malaysian and an Indonesian were arrested ahead of Saudi King Salman's arrival in Kuala Lumpur.

    The monarch is currently touring Asia with 25 princes in his entourage.

    Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition against the Houthi insurgent group in Yemen for the last two years.

  • Wikileaks Publishes Details On CIA

    Wikileaks has published details of what it says are wide-ranging hacking tools used by the CIA.

    The alleged cyber-weapons are said to include malware that targets Windows, Android, iOS, OSX and Linux computers as well as internet routers.

    Some of the software is reported to have been developed in-house, but the UK's MI5 agency is said to have helped build a spyware attack for Samsung TVs.

    A spokesman for the CIA would not confirm the details. "We do not comment on the authenticity or content of purported intelligence documents," he said.

    A spokesman for the Home Office was unable to comment.

  • Plane From Hungary Escorted to UK Airport By RAF

    RAF jets intercepted a Hungarian plane after the aircraft lost communications, the Ministry of Defence has said.

    Two Typhoons were dispatched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire following the alert involving an aircraft with three crew, which had taken off from Romania.

    The civilian plane was escorted to Birmingham International Airport, where the runway was closed for half an hour.

    A spokesman said the response was routine and part of the RAF's air defence role to protect UK airspace.

    One plane from Dublin was diverted to East Midlands Airport while the runway was closed.
