Hong Kong Demonstrators Clash With Police
Police in Hong Kong have used water cannon and tear gas against protesters throwing petrol bombs and bricks near government offices in the city.
The violence broke out after thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators marched, despite being denied a police permit. Scuffles also broke out later between rival protesters around the city.
Earlier hundreds rallied outside the British Consulate, demanding the UK press China to maintain freedoms guaranteed during the 1997 handover.

Body Scanners Used At London Railway Station
Body scanners used to screen passengers for hidden explosives and weapons are being used for the first time at a London railway station.
A Home Office sponsored five-day trial has started at Stratford station, east London.
Portable scanners are being used to screen passengers from up to 30ft away without them having to pass through a security checkpoint. The Home Office said the scheme was part of a "battle against knife crime".

US Department Of Justice To Reveal Name Of 9/11 Attacker
The US Department of Justice has said it will reveal a key name sought by people suing Saudi Arabia for alleged involvement in the 9/11 attacks.
In 2004, the 9/11 commission set up by Congress found no evidence that the Saudi government funded al-Qaeda. However, a 2012 report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the agency was investigating Fahad al-Thumairy and Omar Ahmed al-Bayoumi, Saudi nationals who had allegedly helped the attackers.

Babcock Wins Order To Build 5 New Warships
The race to design and build a new generation of Royal Navy frigates has been won by engineering firm Babcock.
It has been named preferred bidder for the £1.25bn contract for five Type 31 warships. The deal secures hundreds of jobs at Rosyth in Fife, where the ships will be assembled, with construction work expected to be spread between yards across the UK.
Work is to begin by the end of 2019, with the first ships delivered in 2023.

White Supremacist Jailed For Tesco Car Park Attack
A white supremacist who tried to kill a Bulgarian teenager in a Tesco car park has been jailed for more than 18 years.
Vincent Fuller, 50, stabbed Dimitar Mihaylov, 19, in Stanwell, Surrey, a day after a gunman attacked mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Kingston Crown Court heard Fuller, who admitted attempted murder, had set out to kill Muslims. He had denied a terrorist motive but judge Peter Lodder QC said: "This was a terrorist act."

Man To Be Sentenced For Running Over Police Officer
A car thief has admitted seriously injuring a police officer who he ran over with his own police car.
PC Gareth Phillips suffered potentially life-changing injuries when he was punched to the ground and hit by his car in Moseley, Birmingham, last month. The traffic officer was attacked stopping Mubashar Hussain, 29, who had stolen a Range Rover Evoque.
Hussain admitted causing grievous bodily harm and was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on 15 October. The accused, of no fixed address, faced a total of 12 charges when he appeared via videolink at Birmingham Crown Court earlier.

neo-Nazi Elected As German Major
Senior politicians in Germany's ruling parties have voiced anger at the election of a neo-Nazi as mayor of a town in the central state of Hesse.
Stefan Jagsch of the far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) was elected unanimously by seven councillors in Waldsiedlung, near Frankfurt am Main. Mr Jagsch won because no rival stood against him. The small town has about 2,650 residents.
The NPD has survived efforts to ban it, but is seen as "anti-constitutional".

The UK, US, France and Iran may be complicit in possible war crimes in Yemen over their support for parties to the conflict there, UN experts say.
A new report warns the countries they could be held responsible for aiding or assisting the commission of violations.
The Western powers provide weapons and logistical support to the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen's government, while Iran backs the Houthi rebels. Taliban Militants Kill 10 In Car Bomb Attack
A car bomb attack in the Afghan capital Kabul has killed at least 10 people and injured 40 others, officials say.
The blast happened near a security checkpoint in a highly protected area close to embassies and government buildings. Taliban militants said they had carried out the attack.
Kabul has been gripped by a surge in violence since the US and the Taliban reached an agreement in principle to bring an end to the war. As part of the deal with the militants, the US would withdraw 5,400 troops from Afghanistan within 20 weeks, according to US top negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad.

'Muslim Slayer' Jailed For 12 Years
A self-styled "Muslim Slayer" who sent fake poison to the Queen with a letter saying "The Clowns R Coming 4 You" has been sentenced to 12 years and six months.
David Parnham, 36, posted similar notes to then PM Theresa May and two bishops. He also sent "Punish a Muslim Day" hate mail urging people to attack and kill Muslims, the Old Bailey heard.
