Officers Lured And Attacked After False 999 Call
Four police officers were "savagely attacked" by a knifeman who lured them to a property with a false 999 call, a court heard.
Alex Traykov, 20, allegedly used the alias Solomon to report a fight in Islington, north London, on 6 October. When officers arrived at Liverpool Road, Mr Traykov was holding a knife behind his back, the Old Bailey heard.
Mr Traykov, of Redhill, Surrey, denies four charges of attempted murder and three charges of wounding with intent.

Armed Gang Take £300,000 Worth Of Jewellery From Paris Hotel
An armed gang burst into one of the swankiest hotels in Paris on Wednesday night, seizing jewellery and clothing worth at least €350,000 (£300,000; $390,000), reports say.
Two masked attackers took part in the raid on the historic Peninsula Hotel, a stone's throw from the Arc de Triomphe.
One held up staff while the other used an axe to break the glass in three cases where the jewels and clothing were on display. No-one was hurt and the burglars fled.

Ministry Of Defence Criticised Over Obsolete Submarines
The Ministry of Defence has been criticised over its failure to dispose of 20 obsolete nuclear submarines.
Nine of the vessels still contain nuclear fuel, according to the government spending watchdog, the National Audit Office (NAO).
Failing to get rid of them risked the UK's reputation as a responsible nuclear power, the chairwoman of the Commons Public Accounts Committee said. The MoD said it would dispose of them "as soon as practically possible".

Fifth Stabbing In Edmonton Since The Weekend
A man has been stabbed in the same north London area as four people who were attacked at the weekend.
The Met Police said the man, in his 30s, was in a life-threatening condition in hospital. The attack happened at 05:00 BST on Tuesday on Fairfield Road, Edmonton. The victim was found in the same street as the first weekend stabbing.
A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm over the latest attack. Police said the attacks had not been formally linked, but the description of the knifeman was similar.

Four Stabbings In North London Within 10 Hours
Residents in north London where four people were "randomly" stabbed within 10 hours have been told to be vigilant despite two arrests being made.
Two people are still in a critical condition in hospital following the attacks in Edmonton over the weekend.
Det Supt Luke Marks said people should "remain vigilant, especially when walking alone".
A nearby grammar school has put a "lock-down procedure" in place as a "precautionary" measure.

Drug Dealer Sentenced For Harbouring Paris Attackers
A man who lent his flat to two jihadists involved in the November 2015 Paris attacks has been sentenced on appeal to four years in prison.
Jawad Bendaoud, 32, was accused of harbouring Abdelhamid Abaaoud and Chakib Akrouh following the killings. He denied knowing they were attackers. He was cleared at the trial in 2018, but prosecutors immediately appealed.
The co-ordinated suicide bombing and mass shootings around Paris killed 130 people and wounded hundreds more.

Gunman Arrested At St Paul's Cathedral
A suspected gunman has been arrested in the grounds of St Paul's Cathedral.
Police - including armed officers - attended the London landmark shortly after midday.
A man pointed a weapon at security staff and pulled the trigger but no bullet was fired. He then ran off, hiding the gun in a bush before being detained.
The incident is not thought to be terror-related, City of London Police said.
The force cordoned off an entrance to the cathedral grounds on Paternoster Row.

Ex French Intelligence Officer Shot Dead
A former French intelligence officer linked to a plot to kill an opponent of Congo-Brazzaville's president has been found shot dead.
Daniel Forestier's body was found with five bullet wounds to the head and heart in a remote car park on the shores of Lake Geneva. He had worked in the General Directorate of External Security, France's equivalent of Britain's MI6.
French police say they are treating the killing as a professional hit.

IS Supporter Arrested In Austria
Special forces have arrested an alleged Islamic State (IS) group supporter in the Austrian capital Vienna, who is believed to have tried to derail trains in neighbouring Germany.
The 42-year-old Iraqi national is thought to have twice put obstacles on rail tracks last year.
Flags for the IS group and writings in Arabic were found nearby, prosecutors said.
German and Austrian investigators are now questioning the man in Vienna.

Pentagon Authorises $1bn For US-Mexico Border
The Pentagon has authorised the transfer of $1bn (£758m) to army engineers for new wall construction along the US-Mexico border.
The funds are the first under the national emergency declared by President Donald Trump to bypass Congress and build the barrier he pledged during his election campaign.
Democrats have protested against the move.
The funds will be used to build about 57 miles (91km) of fencing.
