• Aung San Suu Kyi Claims Fake News Is Helping Terrorists

    Myanmar's de-facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi has claimed that the crisis in Rakhine state is being distorted by a "huge iceberg of misinformation".

    In her first comments on the latest Rohingya crisis, she said tensions were being fanned by fake news promoting the interests of terrorists. Ms Suu Kyi made the comments in a phone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, her office said.

    More than 123,000 Rohingya have fled Myanmar for Bangladesh in two weeks. The latest outbreak of violence has sent waves of refugees fleeing the country, which is also called Burma.

  • 14 Year Old Dies After East London Shooting

    A 14-year-old boy who was shot in a double shooting in east London has died.

    The Metropolitan Police said Corey Junior Davis, from Forest Gate, died in hospital at 22:01 BST on Tuesday.

    A murder investigation has been launched. The Met said there were "serious concerns" of retaliation and has put extra officers on the streets.

    Corey and a 17-year-old boy were found with gunshot wounds in Moore Walk, Forest Gate, on Monday afternoon.

  • President Putin Deems North Korea Sanctions Useless

    Russian President Vladimir Putin has said pursuing further sanctions against North Korea is "useless", saying "they'd rather eat grass than give up their nuclear programme".

    The US said on Monday it would table a new UN resolution on tougher sanctions in the wake of the latest test of a nuclear bomb by the North on Sunday.

    Mr Putin also said that the ramping up of "military hysteria" could lead to global catastrophe. He said diplomacy was the only answer.

    China, the North's main ally, has also called for a return to negotiations.

  • Army Soldiers Arrested On Suspicion Of Being National Action Members

    Alleged members of a banned neo-Nazi group arrested on suspicion of preparing acts of terror are serving members of the Army, the Ministry of Defence has said.

    The men are a 22-year-old from Birmingham, a 32-year-old from Powys, a 24-year-old from Ipswich and a 24-year-old from Northampton.

    West Midlands Police is holding them on suspicion of being members of British far-right group, National Action.

    All four are being held at a police station in the West Midlands. Police said the arrests had been pre-planned and intelligence-led, and there had been no threat to the public's safety.

  • South Korea Claim North Korea Are Preparing More Missile Launches

    South Korea says it has seen indications that the North is preparing more missile launches, possibly an intercontinental ballistic missile.

    It said it was strengthening its controversial US-made Thaad missile defence system after the North's test of a nuclear bomb at the weekend. The South has carried out live-fire exercises in response to the test.

    The US has warned that any threat to itself or its allies will be met with a "massive military response".

    The North says it tested a hydrogen bomb that can fit on to a long-range missile.

  • Terror Attacks Were Planned By IS In 2016

    An investigation has unearthed evidence of Islamic State (IS) agents trying to recruit terrorists for attacks on central London in 2016.

    Undercover reporters posing as UK teenagers contacted IS recruiters who suggested they carry out attacks on Westminster and London Bridge.

    A counter terrorism expert described the messages as "highly significant".

    Inside Out London passed the information to the security services as it was received. Reporters were in contact with people verified by the security services as senior IS recruiters for more than two years.

  • RAF Opens Up Every Role To Men & Women

    The Royal Air Force has become the first branch of the British military to open up every role to men and women.

    From Friday it will accept applications from women to join the RAF Regiment - its ground-fighting force.

    The Army and Navy will open also roles to all genders over the next 12-18 months.

    The main role of the 2,000-strong RAF Regiment, which sustained casualties in Afghanistan, is to patrol and protect RAF bases and airfields.

    Women make up 14% of the air force as a whole - compared to 10% for the whole military.

  • Security Firm Suspends Nine Staff Following Abuse Reports

    G4S has suspended nine members of staff from an immigration removal centre near Gatwick Airport, following a Panorama undercover investigation.

    The programme says it has covert footage recorded at Brook House showing officers "mocking, abusing and assaulting" people being held there. It says it has seen "widespread self-harm and attempted suicides" in the centre, and that drug use is "rife".

    G4S said it is aware of the claims and "immediately" began an investigation.

  • Brother Of Manchester Bomber To Face Trial

    Hashem Abedi, the younger brother of Manchester bomber Salman Abedi, will be tried in Libya over his suspected role in the attack.

    The 20-year-old was arrested in Libya shortly after the suicide attack in May that killed 22 people.

    Libya's chief investigator in the case, Asadiq al-Sour, said Mr Abedi is suspected of having helped his brother and collected materials for the attack. Their father Ramadan, who was also detained in Libya, has been freed.

    Hashem Abedi will be taken to court within two months at most.

  • North Korea In Early Stages Of Missile Launch Operations

    North Korea says its firing of a missile over Japan was "the first step" of military operations in the Pacific, signalling plans for more launches.

    State media also repeated threats to the US Pacific island of Guam, which it called "an advanced base of invasion".

    The missile launched on Tuesday crossed Japan's northern Hokkaido island, triggering public alerts to take cover, before landing in the sea.

    The UN Security Council has unanimously condemned North Korea for its actions.
