• West Midland Churches Sent Bomb Threats

    More than a dozen churches have been sent "threatening letters" bearing a West Midlands postmark, with one letter warning of a petrol bomb attack.

    West Midlands Police is investigating and said churches and supermarkets in the region and further afield had been targeted "over a period of months".

    In one handwritten letter, threats were made to "petrol bomb" services and stab congregation members "one by one". A priest from Sheffield described the letter he had received as "horrifying".

    Each letter bears a West Midlands postmark.

  • al-Shabab Attack Nairobi Hotel

    A luxury hotel complex is under attack in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

    Gunfire and at least two blasts were heard at the compound in the Westlands district of the city, which houses the DusitD2 hotel as well as offices.

    The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab said it was behind the attack but gave no details. Four armed men entered the complex, eyewitnesses say.

  • Machete Wielding Man Tasered At Tulse Hill Station

    A machete-wielding man was Tasered on a railway station platform as "terrified" rush hour commuters looked on.

    Police pinned the man - filmed waving a "massive" blade at Tulse Hill station in South London - to the ground shortly after 18:30 GMT on Monday. Witnesses described "chaos" as he chased people with the weapon.

    A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possessing an offensive weapon, police said. One witness @Vikjas85 tweeted: "Man at Tulse Hill Station with a massive machete just been Tasered by the police."

  • Polish Mayor Dies From Stabbing Injuries

    The mayor of the Polish city of Gdansk has died in hospital, a day after being stabbed at a charity event.

    Pawel Adamowicz, 53, was attacked on stage in front of hundreds of people on Sunday. He was taken to hospital for stab injuries and underwent five hours of surgery at a local hospital.

    A 27-year-old with a criminal record has been arrested over the attack. Police believe he used a media pass to gain access to the stage.

    Poland's health minister on Monday confirmed Mr Adamowicz had died. "We couldn't win," Lukasz Szumowski told local media.

  • British Cyber Criminal Jailed For 32 Months

    A British cyber criminal who carried out an attack so powerful it knocked a nation offline has been jailed.

    Daniel Kaye admitted attacking an African phone company - inadvertently crashing Liberia's internet - in 2016.

    The 29-year-old remains at the heart of a major international investigation into hundreds of acts of cyber sabotage around the world. The National Crime Agency says Kaye is perhaps the most significant cyber criminal yet caught in the UK.

  • Twenty Eight Year Sentence For Nightclub Attacker

    A man who drove his car down a crowded alley and on to a nightclub dancefloor has been jailed for 28 years.

    Mohammed Abdul, 21, injured staff and revellers at Blake's in Gravesend after being "humiliated" when he was thrown out by bouncers for being too drunk. He made threats to kill the door staff before returning in his Suzuki Vitara 10 minutes later.

    Abdul, of Deptford, south-east London, was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court of two counts of attempted murder.

  • Consulates And Embassies In Australia Sent Suspicious Packages

    Australian police are investigating suspicious packages found at foreign consulates and embassies in Melbourne and Canberra.

    Melbourne's Metropolitan Fire Brigade said it had been called to "a number of incidents" across the city.

    Consulates of the UK, Switzerland, the US and Pakistan are among those evacuated there. Some of the packages were reported to contain what appeared to be concrete, and were labelled asbestos. There were no reports of harm to any staff.

  • Fourteen Year Old Stabbed In Targeted Attack

    A 14-year-old boy has been stabbed to death by attackers who knocked him off a moped, in what police believe was a targeted attack.

    The boy, named locally as Jayden Moody, was found in Bickley Road,Waltham Forest, at 18:30 GMT on Tuesday.

    Detectives believe the moped had been involved in a crash with a car, after which three men got out the vehicle, stabbed the teenager and drove off. He died at the scene. No arrests have been made and a cordon is in place.

  • Suspended CBI Chief Reinstated

    India's top court has reinstated a federal investigation agency chief who was suspended after he and his deputy both accused each other of corruption.

    The Supreme Court said there was no "provision" for the government to "divest the powers" of Alok Verma of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

    Mr Verma and his deputy Rakesh Asthana were both relieved of their duties pending an inquiry after the allegations were made. Mr Verma challenged the decision.

  • American IS Fighters Detained By Syrian Militia

    Two American men fighting for the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria have been captured, according to a US-backed Syrian militia alliance.

    The Syrian Democratic Forces said on Sunday they had captured Warren Christopher Clark from Houston, Texas, and Zaid Abed al-Hamid during fighting.

    According to the alliance, the men were caught planning a terrorist attack on fleeing Syrian civilians. They were arrested along with suspected fighters from Ireland and Pakistan.
