• Police Find Vehicle Significant To Manchester Bombing

    Police investigating the Manchester bombing have found a car they say may be "significant" to their inquiry.

    Officers have evacuated an area of the city while they assess the white Nissan Micra in Rusholme and are asking people to avoid the Banff Road area.

    It comes as the Duke of Cambridge visited the city to meet some of the police officers who were first on the scene following the attack. Suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 people at Manchester Arena on 22 May.

  • Security Increased In Dublin After Gang Feud Murder

    Security has been increased in Dublin after a murder linked to an ongoing criminal gang feud that has claimed at least 11 lives.

    Michael Keogh, 37, was shot dead in an underground cark park on his way to work on Wednesday. Detectives believe he is the latest victim of an ongoing feud between the Hutch and Kinahan gangs.

    The man's body was discovered in a vehicle in a car park in Dorset Street with multiple gunshot wounds.

    His body was found at 9:55 local time, two hours after a car was found on fire at nearby Clonliffe Avenue. Garda (Irish police) say a firearm was recovered in the vehicle.

  • 10 Soldiers Killed By Friendly Fire In The Philippines

    Ten soldiers have been killed in a government air strike in the embattled city of Marawi in the Philippines.

    Eight soldiers were also wounded in the "friendly fire" incident on Wednesday, said defence secretary Delfin Lorenzana, expressing remorse.

    Over the last week militants allied to the so-called Islamic State have engaged in street battles with the army leaving more than 100 people dead.

  • Prisoner Michal Kisiel Arrested After Escaping

    A prisoner who went on the run has been recaptured after he was spotted by a member of the public.

    Michal Kisiel, 30, was being treated for a head wound at Salisbury District Hospital on Tuesday when he managed to flee from prison guards. He was arrested on Wednesday evening after he was seen in Nunton, Wiltshire, about 5 miles (8km) away from the site of his escape.

    Wiltshire Police said he would be returned to prison "in due course".

  • Police Report Manchester Bomber Acted Mostly Alone

    Manchester suicide attacker Salman Abedi bought most of the components used to make the bomb himself, police have said.

    Many of the bomber's movements and actions were "carried out alone" in the four days prior to the attack, Russ Jackson, head of the North West counter terrorism unit, said. But police have yet to rule out whether he was part of a wider network.

    Three men arrested over the attack were released without charge on Tuesday.

    A powerful vehicle bomb has hit the diplomatic area of the Afghan capital, Kabul, killing at least 80 people and injuring 350.

    It struck close to the German embassy in Zanbaq Square, with civilians said to be the main casualties. The morning rush-hour blast was so strong it blew out windows and doors hundreds of metres away.

    No group has yet said it carried out the bombing, but the Taliban and IS have both been behind recent attacks.

    So-called Islamic State (IS) has claimed it was behind an attack on a bus carrying Coptic Christians in Egypt that killed at least 29 people and wounded about 25 others.

    Masked men boarded several vehicles carrying the Christians and opened fire at close range, witnesses said. The funerals of some of the victims were held on Friday night.

    On Monday, Rick Maddison fatally shot Senior Constable Brett Forte after the police officer intercepted his car in Queensland. He fled to a nearby farmhouse and spent the night in a stand-off with police.

    Manchester Victoria railway station has reopened more than a week after the suicide attack at the city's arena.

    The station, attached to Manchester Arena, was shut after the bombing at the Ariana Grande concert, which left 22 people dead and dozens injured.

    More CCTV footage of bomber Salman Abedi has been released and police are appealing for people who might have seen him carrying a blue suitcase.

    Forensic teams have also been seen searching a landfill site in Bury. British Transport Police said its officers would be on patrol at the station on Tuesday.

  • Terror Threat Reduced To Critical

    The UK terrorism threat level has been reduced from critical to severe, Prime Minister Theresa May has said.

    The change indicates an attack is highly likely, not imminently expected.

    Soldiers deployed to support the police will be stood down on Monday night, at the close of the bank holiday weekend.

    Earlier on Saturday, police evacuated an area of Moss Side in the city, in a search linked to Monday's bomb attack at the Manchester Arena which killed 22 people and left scores injured. The evacuation was described by Greater Manchester Police as a precautionary measure to "ensure everyone's safety".
