Between 20,000 And 30,000 IS Militants In Syria And Iraq
Between 20,000 and 30,000 Islamic State (IS) militants remain in Syria and Iraq despite the group's recent losses, according to a United Nations report.
The report says that while many fighters, planners and commanders have been killed, some IS members continue to be fully engaged militarily.
Among them is "a significant component of the many thousands of active foreign terrorist fighters", the report adds. A "reduced, covert version" of IS could survive in both countries, it warns.

Man Arrested For Westminster Car Crash Named
The man arrested on suspicion of terror offences after a car crashed outside the Houses of Parliament has been named as Salih Khater by government sources.
The 29-year-old British citizen, originally from Sudan, has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Met Police said on Wednesday. He came to the UK as a refugee and was granted asylum. His brother described him as a "normal person" with no fanatical ideas, and no links to any religious group.

Car Crashes Into Westminster Barrier Injuring Two
Two people have been injured after a car crashed into security barriers outside the Houses of Parliament.
Officers were seen surrounding the vehicle before a man was arrested, shortly after 07:30 BST.
Cyclists were hit in the crash and London Ambulance Service said it had taken two patients to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Scotland Yard's counter-terrorism unit is leading the investigation but the force is "keeping an open mind". Armed police, ambulances and firefighters are continuing to respond to the incident in central London.

Met Police Officer Hit With Sledgehammer
A police officer was hit with a sledgehammer after responding to reports of a domestic fight involving a knife, the Met Police said.
Officers were called to Sunningfields Road in Barnet, north London, at about 09:30 BST on Friday.
Two of them entered an address and were confronted by a man who swung the sledgehammer at them and fled, the force added.
Officers are keen to speak to Cayle Lynch in connection with what happened.
Mr Lynch, 24, is "known to sleep rough" and frequents Sunny Hill Park and Hampstead Heath.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said he "should not be approached".

Bomb Squad Called After Beach Grenade Discovery
A bomb squad was called to a woman's house after she found a grenade while out dog walking and took it home.
Laura Ingall found the partially buried World War Two device on Bramshott Common, near Liphook, Hampshire, on Saturday. She said she had "worryingly" kicked it to get it out of the ground

Two Police Officers Shot Dead In Canada
Canadian police say a suspect is in custody after at least four people were killed in a shooting in the eastern city of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Two of the victims were local police officers, the city police said on Twitter. The pair have not been named, and the circumstances around the incident remain unclear.
Police have advised residents of Brookside Drive to "stay in their homes with doors locked at this time".
A local TV reporter said he heard four gunshots just after 07:00 (11:00 GMT).

British Man Admits Plotting Terror Attack
A man has pleaded guilty to plotting a terror attack in London and raising money for terrorism.
Lewis Ludlow, 26, from Rochester, Kent, appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from HMP Belmarsh.
He pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to travel to the Philippines for terrorist purposes. The charge will remain on file.

29 Children Killed And Many Injured In Yemen Air Strike
At least 29 children have been killed and 30 wounded in a Saudi-led coalition air strike in Yemen, the International Committee of the Red Cross says.
The children were travelling on a bus that was hit at a market in Dahyan, in the northern province of Saada.
The health ministry run by the rebel Houthi movement said put the death toll at 43, and said 61 people were wounded.

Air To Air Missile Accidentally Fired By Spanish Jet Over Estonia
Spain's defence ministry is investigating after one of its fighter jets accidentally fired a missile over Estonia during a training mission.
The incident happened on Tuesday afternoon "in an area of southwest Estonia authorised for this type of exercise", the ministry said. It added that the air-to-air missile did not cause damage and was designed to self-destruct.
But Estonia's military says it is looking for the remains of the missile.
"A Spanish Eurofighter based in Lithuania accidentally fired a missile without causing any harm," Spain's defence ministry said in a statement.

Chaos At Frankfurt Airport After Security Error
Parts of Frankfurt Airport were evacuated on Tuesday and dozens of flights cancelled after a French family of four got past security despite a positive test for explosives.
Police blamed "an error by a security officer". It led to boarding being halted and a partial evacuation of Terminal 1.
The family were later found, questioned and allowed to travel on. A police spokeswoman said one of them had not fully completed security checks.
