• Second Skripal Suspect Identified As Decorated Russian Intelligence Officer

    The second suspect in the Salisbury poisoning case was a doctor and highly decorated Russian military intelligence officer, an investigative website says.

    Bellingcat said it used a combination of online material and leaked documents to identify Alexander Mishkin, 39, as someone linked to the attack in March. It said President Vladimir Putin had presented him with the Hero of the Russian Federation award. When asked about the naming of Mr Mishkin, the Kremlin would not comment.

    Last month, Bellingcat named the first suspect as Anatoliy Chepiga, a claim also rejected by Russia.

  • Nazi-hunting Couple Receive Top Honours From President Macron

    France's most famous Nazi-hunting couple, Serge Klarsfeld and his wife Beate, have received top honours from President Emmanuel Macron.

    Serge Klarsfeld, 83, received France's highest award, the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour, while Beate, 79, received the National Order of Merit.

    The pair began their mission to catch Nazis and bring them to justice after they married in the 1960s.

  • Westminster Attack Inquest Reveals Met Police Acting Commissioner Was A Witness

    The Met Police's acting commissioner witnessed the murder of PC Keith Palmer during the Westminster attack from inside his car, an inquest has heard.

    Sir Craig Mackey said it was his instinct to get out of the car when he saw Khalid Masood attack, but he stayed because he had no protective equipment.

    The attack happened as he was being driven out of the Palace of Westminster after a meeting on 22 March last year.

    Masood also drove into and killed four people on Westminster bridge.

    Russian spies have been accused of involvement in a series of cyber-plots across the globe, leading the US to level charges against seven agents.

    The US justice department said targets included the global chemical weapons watchdog, anti-doping agencies and a US nuclear company.

    The allegations are part of an organised push-back against alleged Russian cyber-attacks around the world.

    Russia earlier dismissed the allegations as "Western spy mania".

    Detectives are continuing to question a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing on a London Overground train.

    A male victim was seriously injured as the train pulled into Hackney Central Station at about 18:00 BST on Tuesday.

    Police said the man was in a stable condition and recovering in hospital.

  • Members Of Far Right Group Arrested In Germany

    Six men have been arrested on suspicion of belonging to a far-right militant group in the eastern German city of Chemnitz.

    The men, aged 20 to 31, are accused of forming a group called "Revolution Chemnitz" to subvert democracy.

    Prosecutors said the men had been planning attacks on foreigners, politicians and senior civil servants.

    Tension has been running high in the city since a German man was allegedly killed by two migrants in August.

    The death prompted the worst far-right-inspired violence Germany has seen for decades.

  • Seven Men Arrested In Netherlands On Terror Plot Charges

    Police in the Netherlands have arrested seven men over an alleged plot to carry out what they describe as a major terrorist attack involving guns and explosives.

    Police say the men were trying to source AK47s, hand grenades and bomb materials to carry out their attack.

    The men, aged between 21 and 34, were arrested on Thursday. Three had been arrested previously for trying to travel abroad to join foreign militants.

  • Copenhagen Police Close Transport Links In Hunt For Three Suspects

    Three people involved in a "serious crime" in a Swedish-registered car are being hunted by Danish police, according to a statement.

    It says the three people are riding in a black Volvo V90, registration ZBP 546, and should not be approached. "Witnesses who see the vehicle should contact the police immediately," the statement said.

    Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reports there has been a kidnapping, although police have not given further details.

  • French Police Chief Killed In Stabbing

    A police chief has been stabbed to death in the city of Rodez, in southern France, outside the city hall.

    Pascal Filoé was stabbed three times in the middle of the street by an individual known to police.

    French radio network France Info reports that the suspect's dog was taken away from him a week ago. This reportedly led him to threaten the mayor and the police chief.

    Mr Filoé died of his injuries in hospital shortly after the incident.
