Australian Couple’s Death Treated As Terrorism By Police

The death of an elderly couple at their home in Australia is being treated as terrorism, detectives have said.

The bodies of Maurice Anthill, 87, and his 86-year-old wife Zoe, were found at their home in Brisbane on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, 22-year-old Raghe Abdi was shot dead by police on a highway on the outskirts of the city after threatening officers with a knife.

Detectives have not yet confirmed how the Anthill’s died but say officers found evidence that Abdi had been in their home.

Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the known extremist was acting alone, adding: “We had no choice but to declare this as a terrorism incident.”

Abdi had been influenced by Islamic State, according to Australian police, and was arrested on suspicion of joining extremist groups in May 2019 while trying to board a flight to Somalia.
