Terror Attacks Were Planned By IS In 2016

An investigation has unearthed evidence of Islamic State (IS) agents trying to recruit terrorists for attacks on central London in 2016.

Undercover reporters posing as UK teenagers contacted IS recruiters who suggested they carry out attacks on Westminster and London Bridge.

A counter terrorism expert described the messages as «highly significant».

Inside Out London passed the information to the security services as it was received. Reporters were in contact with people verified by the security services as senior IS recruiters for more than two years.

They posed as fictional characters committed to jihad.

Last July, they discovered the terrorist group was touting on social media for British Muslims to carry out attacks at specific London locations.

RAF Opens Up Every Role To Men & Women

The Royal Air Force has become the first branch of the British military to open up every role to men and women.

From Friday it will accept applications from women to join the RAF Regiment — its ground-fighting force.

The Army and Navy will open also roles to all genders over the next 12-18 months.

The main role of the 2,000-strong RAF Regiment, which sustained casualties in Afghanistan, is to patrol and protect RAF bases and airfields.

Women make up 14% of the air force as a whole — compared to 10% for the whole military.

The RAF’s women will not be the first women allowed to serve in close combat roles, as some recently joined the Army’s Royal Armoured Corps, but they are still excluded from several of the Army’s regiments. It will be another year before women can apply to enter infantry units, and the Navy’s Royal Marines, where the physical demands can be tougher.

Security Firm Suspends Nine Staff Following Abuse Reports

G4S has suspended nine members of staff from an immigration removal centre near Gatwick Airport, following a Panorama undercover investigation.

The programme says it has covert footage recorded at Brook House showing officers «mocking, abusing and assaulting» people being held there. It says it has seen «widespread self-harm and attempted suicides» in the centre, and that drug use is «rife».

G4S said it is aware of the claims and «immediately» began an investigation.

The security firm said it had not been provided with recorded evidence, but added: «There is no place for the type of conduct described.»

Those suspended were one female nurse, six detention custody officers, and two managers, who were all male. He said he understood several other members of staff had also been placed on restrictive duties.

The programme, to be aired on Monday, uses footage it says was recorded by former custody officer Callum Tulley at the centre, which holds detainees facing deportation from the UK.
