Attack On Saudi King Salman Foiled By Malaysian Police

Malaysian police say they have foiled a planned attack on Arab royals by suspected militants from Yemen.

Four Yemenis and three other suspects including a Malaysian and an Indonesian were arrested ahead of Saudi King Salman’s arrival in Kuala Lumpur.

The monarch is currently touring Asia with 25 princes in his entourage.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition against the Houthi insurgent group in Yemen for the last two years.

However, it is unclear what group — if any — the Yemeni nationals were aligned with. A senior police source told news agency Reuters the four were believed to be Houthi insurgents. However, other sources say the suspects were linked to so-called Islamic State.

Wikileaks Publishes Details On CIA

Wikileaks has published details of what it says are wide-ranging hacking tools used by the CIA.

The alleged cyber-weapons are said to include malware that targets Windows, Android, iOS, OSX and Linux computers as well as internet routers.

Some of the software is reported to have been developed in-house, but the UK’s MI5 agency is said to have helped build a spyware attack for Samsung TVs.

A spokesman for the CIA would not confirm the details. «We do not comment on the authenticity or content of purported intelligence documents,» he said.

A spokesman for the Home Office was unable to comment.

Wikileaks said that its source had shared the details with it to prompt a debate into whether the CIA’s hacking capabilities had exceeded its mandated powers.

Plane From Hungary Escorted to UK Airport By RAF

RAF jets intercepted a Hungarian plane after the aircraft lost communications, the Ministry of Defence has said.

Two Typhoons were dispatched from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire following the alert involving an aircraft with three crew, which had taken off from Romania.

The civilian plane was escorted to Birmingham International Airport, where the runway was closed for half an hour.

A spokesman said the response was routine and part of the RAF’s air defence role to protect UK airspace.

One plane from Dublin was diverted to East Midlands Airport while the runway was closed.

The Saab 340 plane travelling from Bucharest landed in Birmingham at about 07:30 GMT.

FBI Director Rejects Trump’s Claim On Obama Wiretap

FBI director James Comey has rejected Donald Trump’s claim that his predecessor, Barack Obama, ordered a wiretap of his phone before he was elected US president, US media say.

Mr Comey reportedly asked the US justice department (DOJ) to publicly reject Saturday’s allegation, according to the New York Times and NBC. He is said to have asked for this because the allegation falsely insinuated that the FBI broke the law. The DOJ has not commented.

US media quoted officials as saying that Mr Comey believed there was no evidence to support Mr Trump’s allegation. From an FBI director this is a startling rebuke of a sitting president and Mr Comey will be under pressure from Democrats to voice it publicly.

The Republican president, who faces intense scrutiny over alleged Russian interference in support of his presidential bid, made the claims in a series of tweets on Saturday. He offered no evidence to support his allegation that phones at Trump Tower were tapped last year.

Four Missiles Fired From North Korea

North Korea has launched four ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan.

Three of them fell into Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) after flying some 1,000km (620 miles), in what PM Shinzo Abe called a «new stage of threat». They were fired from the Tongchang-ri region, near the North’s border with China, the South Korean military said.

The type of missile is unclear but the North is banned from any missile or nuclear tests by the UN.

A South Korean military official said a launch had taken place at 07:36 local time Monday (22:36 GMT Sunday) and was being investigated to determine the type of projectile used.

The US military said later it had detected and tracked a launch but had determined that it did not pose a threat to North America.
