Serbia’s first Gay Pride march for four years has been held in the capital Belgrade, amid huge security, including special forces and armoured vehicles.

Waving rainbow flags, hundreds took the short march through empty streets.

Authorities had cancelled the event every year since marchers were attacked in 2010 – nine years after Gay Pride was first held in Belgrade.

Serbia is keen to show increasing tolerance as it seeks to join the EU, the BBC’s Guy De Launey says.

A teacher in the US state of Utah who was legally carrying a gun in her primary school was seriously injured when it accidentally discharged, police have said.

The incident happened in a staff toilet before classes started and no children were in the building, officials said.

The unidentified woman was in a good condition in hospital by the afternoon.

Utah is among a number of states that allow people with permits to carry concealed weapons into primary schools.

A larger number of states leave it up to individual school districts to prohibit firearms on school campuses or allow only teachers and other school staff to carry guns.

Utah also prohibits school officials from asking teachers if they are carrying a firearm.

The US Navy has called off its search for the pilot of one of two jets that crashed over the western Pacific Ocean on Friday, a spokesman has said.

The two F/A-18C Hornets were operating off the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson when they came down.

The other pilot was rescued shortly after and received medical attention aboard the ship. He has since been released from medical facilities.

The two jets, which cost $57m (£35m) each, have not been recovered.

«This is an exceptionally difficult time for the friends and family of the missing pilot and the Navy community,» Rear Adm Christopher Grady told reporters.

The identity of the pilot will not be released until the family notification process is complete, he added.

The planes were flying routine operations in the US 7th Fleet’s area of responsibility, which stretches west from the International Date Line to the India-Pakistan border.

The two aircraft had not long taken off from USS Carl Vinson when they apparently collided about 11 km (7 miles) from the carrier.

The crash occurred about 290 miles west of Wake Island, which is 2,300 miles west of Honolulu, a spokesman said.

The UK will take «whatever steps are necessary» to keep safe after a video showing the killing of hostage David Haines was issued by Islamic State militants, the prime minister has said.

David Cameron said the UK would «hunt down» the killers of the aid worker, whom he called a «British hero».

He said the «menace» of IS had to be destroyed in a «calm, deliberate» way.

In the video, IS also threatened to kill a second Briton, who has been named as Alan Henning, 47.

Mr Henning, a married father-of-two from Salford, worked as a taxi driver and was a volunteer on an aid convoy.

Speaking at Downing Street after a meeting of the UK emergency committee Cobra, Mr Cameron said of IS, also known as Isil and Isis, «they are not Muslims, they are monsters».

«We will do everything in our power to hunt down these murderers and ensure they face justice, however long it takes.»

In the video, a masked man who appears to have a British accent was pictured beside Mr Haines holding a knife.

Forty-five Fijian UN peacekeepers captured by an al-Qaeda-affiliated rebel group in the Syrian Golan Heights have been released, the UN says.

A statement said they were handed over to UN Disengagement Observer Force (Undof) personnel at 14:30 (11:30 GMT).

All the peacekeepers were in a good condition, it added.

Members of the al-Nusra Front captured the Fijians last month during clashes between rebels and Syrian government forces in the demilitarised zone.

According to the Fijian authorities, al-Nusra demanded to be taken off the UN’s list of designated terrorist organisations, wanted humanitarian aid be delivered to parts of Syria, and sought compensation for three fighters killed in a gunfight with Undof forces in the Golan Heights.
