Police In Germany Raid Citizens Of The Reich Premises

German police have raided premises nationwide linked to an anti-Semitic far-right movement called Reichsbürger (Citizens of the Reich).

Neo-Nazi propaganda and firearms were seized in the raids, in 10 of Germany’s 16 states. The targeted group, « United German Peoples and Tribes », is part of Reichsbürger, whose members reject the German state as a legal entity.

The interior ministry said racism « even in times of crisis » would be combated.

The statement from ministry spokesman Steve Alter was a reference to the coronavirus pandemic, which has triggered the closure of German schools, businesses and public events.

The Reichsbürger movement is estimated to have 19,000 members in Germany. Those targeted are suspected of spreading racist threats and propaganda.

Brother Of Arena Bomber Found Guilty

The brother of Manchester Arena bomber Salman Abedi has been found guilty of murdering 22 people.

Hashem Abedi had denied helping to plan the « sudden and lethal » blast which killed or injured « nearly 1,000 ».

The Old Bailey heard the pair worked together to source materials used in the suicide blast after an Ariana Grande show at the venue. Prosecutors said Hashem was « jointly responsible » with his brother for the attack on 22 May 2017. The Manchester-born siblings « stood shoulder to shoulder » in the plot, with younger sibling Hashem « just as guilty of murder » as the bomber himself, the court heard.

Hashem, 22, was also found guilty of one count of attempted murder, encompassing the remaining injured, and conspiring to cause explosions. He was not in court for the unanimous verdicts after he dismissed his legal team last week and decided to take no further part in the trial.

Some of the victims’ family members burst into tears as the verdicts were delivered after the seven-week trial.

Civilians May Have Been Killed By Airstrikes In Iraq And Syria

There is « credible » evidence British airstrikes against the Islamic State group have killed civilians in Iraq and Syria, the US military has said.

The Ministry of Defence has continued to deny American reports that some RAF airstrikes against IS have harmed civilians.

The RAF has deployed 4,409 bombs and missiles in the five-year war with IS. The MoD’s approach to identifying civilian casualties has been described as « not fit for purpose ».

Airwars, a group which has been monitoring the bombing campaign and its impact on civilians, has obtained details of 11 airstrikes carried out by European nations in which at least 40 civilians were killed. The UK has admitted the RAF was involved in three of the strikes but still insists no civilians were killed.

One of the incidents involving the RAF was investigated in 2018 after a whistleblower inside the US-led anti-IS coalition reported civilian deaths. The coalition now confirms two civilians were killed.

The MoD claims it has killed 3,964 IS fighters and injured 298.

But so far it has accepted responsibility for just one civilian casualty – and none in the heavily-bombed cities of Raqqa and Mosul, where thousands of civilians are believed to have died.

British Army Medic And Two American Soldiers Killed In Rocket Attack At Military Base

Three people have been killed after a base hosting US and UK troops in Iraq was hit by a rocket attack.

At least 12 people were injured in the attack on the Taji military camp, north of Baghdad.

US military sources said an American soldier, an American contractor and a British soldier were killed. No names have yet been released.

Tension has been high since the US killed senior Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in a drone strike in January. A retaliatory Iranian strike on al-Asad – another base hosting US troops – on 8 January left more than 100 soldiers suffering from traumatic brain injuries (TBI).

However, both Iran and the US appeared then to want to draw a line under the matter and there have been no major flare-ups since.

A statement from the US-led coalition in Iraq and Syria confirmed that 18 rockets had struck the base and three coalition personnel had been killed. In an earlier tweet, a spokesman for the coalition said the attack happened at 19:35 local time (16:35 GMT) on Wednesday. He added that an investigation had been launched. The UK Ministry of Defence said in a statement that the British soldier who was killed was a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps. « The service person’s family have been informed and have requested a period of privacy before further details are released, » the statement said.

UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace called the attack a « cowardly and retrograde act ». He said his thoughts were with the families of those killed or injured, adding: « We shall not forget their sacrifice and will ensure those who committed these acts face justice. »
